I wake up with a start. My head is throbbing and I seem to be positioned at the base of a large tree. The first thing I did was panic. "Are there people around? Why am I here? Where is my mask? My identity has to remain hidden."
As I sat up memories of last night slowly came back to me, I had just finished a fight with a low level villain, I didn't mean to get into the fight, I wasn't technically on the good or evil side, but he had started it. I remember I won but not before sustaining a strong hit to the head. When I got home I realized I had missed curfew and the apartment building was locked. I waited by a tree where no one could see me eventually falling asleep.
A small pain remains behind my eyes, but my head has stopped aching. I stand up and stretch my wings before they curled back into my spine no longer visible by the human eye. I reach my hands up to feel my mask, a thick black piece of fabric that covered my eyes and forehead, leaving my nose, mouth, and hair visible. Hybrids aren't very welcomed by the crowd so I always make sure I'm covering my face and body before heading out to make mischief. At first I wore a veil that covered my entire head, however, humans aren't always the smartest and I switched the veil out for the more practical option. I change into my everyday day clothes making sure there were no loose feathers from my wings stuck to my shirt before walking inside.
I stop in the kitchen and take a painkiller for my head, usually a hit like that would cause a concussion to a human. I just brush it off living for years as a hybrid I've learned I'm more resilient than most. I flop onto the couch getting ready to fall back asleep when my phone buzzes.
"I know who you are."
