Wind whips at them. It tries to pull them apart, but he fights it and pins her to his chest with all his strength. She clings to the straps of his parachute harness, her face deathly white. Their screams evaporate into the roar of the wind.

One chute isn't enough to carry them down. He knows this. The ground rushes at them, and there're only moments before they hit. He doesn't think. He kicks and twists in the air, turning so that his back faces the ground. He holds her close and hopes that it is enough to save her.
