3 seconds left in Game 5 of our semi-finals game against the New York Liberty and their up by 2
"Look, we can get this, let's get Vegas it's second ring baby. I want our Rookie of the year to be the one to shoot. I trust you Y/n" Coach Becky said
"Nah, you gotta hit Chels, I can't hit that" I said
"You won't if you think like that, I picked you for reason, I've seen you hit hella buzzer beaters" Becky said trying to hype me up
"I-" I got cut off by a ref
"That's it coach" He said making the starting five, which was me, Candace, A'ja, Chelsea, and Jackie, get back on the court
"Aye Y/n, tell me where you gon be at and I'll throw that thang, wherever you need me to" A'ja said and I looked at the clock and thought about a three second shot
"Uh, imma be at half, like right th-there" I stuttered
"Yea, you got this shit. You stressin over this too much, like coach said you Herr for a reason, we all are so just shoot that bitch" She said
"Ight" I said and A'ja ran to the baseline where she had to throw the ball in at
The ref gave A'ja the ball and blew her whistle. A'ja was searching for the right way to pass the ball to me, she launched the ball over Breanna Stewart and I jumped and caught it, I ran to the three point line with 2.4 seconds left, I shot the ball over Courtney Vandersloot and watched as it made its way to the basket, it felt like slow motion as everybody watched the ball. It hit backboard and looked like it was about to in but the buzzer rang through the arena the ball hit the rim and back to the ground as the srea was now filled with screams of all the Liberty fans and the court was filled with players and coaches as they fan on to celebrate with the team. I stood there looking at the basket as I felt sweat and tears roll.doen my face
"Y/n, hey hey hey, come on baby, it's not over yet, it's not the end, you got a long career ahead of you" Candace said as she approached me and gave me a tight hug as I cried
"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck man oh my God" I said
"It's ok, it's ok, I swear it's gonna be ok kid" Candace said as she comforted me by rubbing my back
"Y'all, we gotta head back to the locker room" I heard Chelsea's voice say as she touched my back and kind of pulled me towards her so we could start walking
The whole way to the locker room the team was dead silent, I walked in between Chelsea and A'ja as Chelsea held me by my waist into her and A'ja held my hand. We made it to the locker room and I sat with them as they just held me
"I wanna say something and I'm being completely honest when I say this. We won last year and last year was a hell of a year for us, but this team is the best team I've ever coach. Seriously, I haven't seen a group of girls more dedicated then y'all, this team is way better than our 2022 team, I mean we won that year but this is a huge step up from last year, I see improvements in every single one of you women. I mean this with my heart when I say I didn't expect my ONLY rookie on this tram to dominate the way Y/n did this entire season, she stepped up when Kelsey got hurt and she's been showing not only me but the whole team and everybody that's been doubting her since draft night that she's the right person for this team, ring or not" Coach said as tears continued to fall down my cheeks
"I'm sorry guys, thank you coach for that seriously, but I need a minute" I said as I left A'ja and Chelsea's grips and excused myself from the locker room and sat I'm the empty hallway
About 5 minutes had past and I felt somebody's head lay on my shoulder
"You did so good and I'm so proud of you Y/n, I really am, you've improved so much over these past couple of months, we all agree on that" A'ja said
