When Charlotte Elise Steiner was bitten by an alpha at the tender age of 7 - right after she escaped the abusive home she was in. The neglectful alpha viewed her, and her older twin brothers Ethan and Aiden as potential betas for his pack.
Despite the bite, Charlotte did not undergo the werewolf transformation as expected; instead, she turned into something special-a rare occurrence.

In other ( cheesy ) terms, soul-ties could be considered the same thing as soulmates.
Consequently, Deucalion chose to keep Charlotte concealed, unveiling her only when her unique abilities were needed.
Charlotte adapted seamlessly within the alpha pack, embraced by them as a cherished younger sibling due to their inherent protectiveness towards her.
Skipping ahead to the tragic loss of her brother Aiden in the battle with the nogitsune and the Oni demons, Charlotte Steiner was completely devastated.
She mourned deeply for quite a while as the remaining Steiner siblings struggled through the remaining school year amidst heart-wrenching sorrow.
Eventually, Ethan made the difficult decision to move forward on with his life, as remaining in Beacon Hills only served to reopen the wounds of his twin's death.
Despite Charlotte's objections, Ethan departed, with an agreement in place with Melissa McCall - who had a huge soft spot for them - for Charlotte to reside in the McCall household until she finished high school.
