Vincent looked a little suspicious. "What do you want Jules?"
"Yes, I could definitely eat something," I replied to him and Vivian. This time, the faintest hint of a smile graced her face. We followed her lead to the parking lot, climbing into our own car while she got into hers. Vivian drove close to us, winding down her window. "Follow me. I know the way," she said confidently, then sped off. We mimicked her as we started driving too.
The drive was short, and we got to the restaurant in no time. It was on the edge of the city and pretty famous with tourists, way out of my budget. Or it was way out of my budget.
We walked in and were sited relatively fast. I scanned the menu and decided the burger looked delicious, so I ordered it. "Okay, so we have an ongoing investigation, and time is of the essence." Vivian started. "Okay, I'm listening."
"Two days ago, a vampire girl named Hanna was kidnapped. The kidnappers haven't made contact yet or called to make demands. We believe the girl is still alive."
"Yes, she is alive. What you said right now is the truth." Vivian looked relieved. "Good, now we can be sure of that."
"So, what do you need me to do?" I was willing to help in any way I could to find this girl. "You're former boss, Sam, is being held in the prison. But he won't talk. We think he has something to do with the kidnapping because of his former crime." So that's what happened to Sam. Good, he deserves to rot in that prison.
"What makes you think he will talk to me?"
"I don't think he'll talk to you willingly, but there is a torture spell that can make a chair talk. It's illegal, but the council permitted you to use it to get information out of Sam. Practice it with Jahha. When he'll talk to you, just find out if what he's saying is the truth." My face drained from any color.
"I don't want to torture anyone," I told her. "I know, but a little girl's life is at stake, and Sam deserves it. So don't do it for me, do it for little Hanna."
"This is low even for you, Vivian, to manipulate him like that." Vincent snapped at her. I took a deep breath in. "Okay, I'll do it. I can't promise I'll be able to perform that spell, though. How much time do I got?"
"You'll learn it tonight, and we will do the interview tomorrow right after your school day. I'm sorry for asking you this, but you seem to be the only one with the power to solve this right now. I really appreciate it." She was speaking in a low and sweet voice. I already told her I'll do it. She can just stop the charade.
"Is Jahha available tonight?" I asked Vincent. "Yeah, she'll be in the club soon."
"Okay, I'll let you know how it goes with that spell." Vivian nodded at me. Our food arrived, but I wasn't feeling really hungry anymore, so I just ate a little from the burger in front of me and got the rest warped up to go. I'm sure Jaron will like it. When we finished eating, Vivian pulled me to the side.
"I need Julian for a few minutes alone. It won't take long." Vincent looked worried as if he didn't like me being alone with Vivian. "I'll be waiting in the car," he finally said and walked away. "What is it?" I asked her.
"I wanted to apologize again for how I acted. I see now you really have skills and are on our side. You did well today, and I wanted you to know I'm sorry." Oh, okay, this was weird. "It's fine, Vivian. You don't have to like me. As long as we respect each at work, it'll be fine." I told her quietly.
"It's not that Julian. I want us to be friends. I can be a very good friend. You'll have the enforcers on your side." Her voice held a double meaning. "And what do I have to do in return?"
"Be my friend. Help the wolves when needed. When you learn how to do potions, I want to purchase a moon potion from you. It keeps wolves asleep during the full moon and prevents a lot of pain. Unfortunately, it's expensive, so I was hoping you could sell it to my pack for a good price."
She was thinking about her pack and how to improve their lives. Before she said that, I thought she had something terrible she wanted to ask of me. Maybe for me to lie in one of the investigations. But she had good intentions.
"Yeah, of course. If it helps your pack, I'm in. I'll ask Jahha how to make it. Her eyes went wide. "Really?" She whispered. "Yeah, I don't want you to be in pain. Is the potion hard to make or something?"
"I don't know, I'm not a witch. But it's hard to get, and when we do find it, it's expensive. My pack can't buy it at market value. It would mean the world to me, Julian."
"Sure, I'll do my beat." To my surprise, Vivian went over and hugged me, making me blush to the tips of my ears. "Okay, bye now. You have a spell to learn. I'll see you tomorrow." She seemed a little embarrassed herself. Was this potion really that expensive? It would be fine for me to help. I won't mind it. People always helped me when we were in a tight spot, and I would like to retune the favor.
But Vivian was right. I need to go and learn that awful torture spell right now.
