Chapter 15: Viewing Room

Start from the beginning

Using her thumb to wipe away the tears streaming down my face.

I leaned into her touch.

Trying to regulate my breathing, looking at her soft gentle face.

I couldn't help the smile that spread on my face.

I let out a breath, finally calming myself down.

She let me to the table, I sat down.

She began asking me how I am doing, just normal conversation as if we'd done this all of the time.

She resumed her cooking.

We were talking and laughed.

No pov:

Bucky had this back against the wall of the viewing room. Sitting on the floor just below the glass. Listening to the doctors in the surgery room with you through the intercom.

His head in his hands.

He couldn't watch.

The door opened and Bucky listened to the light footsteps making their way over to him.

He heard the sound of a body sitting down beside him.

Finally turning to see Wanda sitting on the floor with him.

She looks like she had been crying.

Wanda and Bucky's eyes met, but neither of them said a word.

There wasnt much to be seat.

Bucky leaned his head back, letting his head lean against the wall. Closing his eyes and resumed listening to the intercom.

Wanda did the same, closing her eyes.

They sat in silence for a bit, having an unspoken agreement and understanding.

Wanda let out a quiet breath, almost a laugh.

Bucky opened his eyes and looked at her.

Her head was leaned back, eyes still closed, but she had a small smile on her face.

Bucky looked at her confused.

Wanda opened her eyes and immediately saw Bucky looking at her.

She shook her head,

"Sorry." She said,

"She looks so much like her mom." She said while looking down at her sleeve-covered hands.

Bucky scrunched his eyebrows together, sending her a weird look.

When Wanda looked back to him, she laughed again.

"I don't think she'd mind." She said as she lifted her hand to Bucky's arm that was resting on his knee. Hesitating, waiting for Bucky to respond.

Bucky looked at her hand near his arm, then back up at her face.

He hesitated, he didn't like people being in his mind, but he nodded his head.

Wanda put her hand on his arm and closed her eyes.

Bucky followed her lead, closing his eyes.

The image of your mother in a kitchen, laughing, and smiling, filled their vision.

They were seeing what you were seeing.

Despite you being on a surgery table, surgeons working on you. You were a million miles away.

Wanda heard Bucky let out a small breathy laugh. She smiled.

They were seeing through your eyes.

Just watching and experiencing what you were.

They sat like that for a while, just watching you be at peace with your mom.

But, nothing good ever stays that way.

The hair on the back of Wanda's neck stood up, her grip on Bucky's arm tightening, becoming stiff.

They heard the sound of tires screeching, and a car door slamming.

They watched as your mother's face faltered, ever so slightly. But keeping a brave face.

Wanda and Bucky could hear the heart monitors beeping in the other room begin to go just a little faster.

The back door in the kitchen slamming open.

Wanda jumped slightly.

Bucky and Wanda watched as your headshot in the direction of the door.

Seeing a man standing in the door.

Wanda gasped, snatching her hand back from Bucky's arm.

Bucky opened his eyes to see a scared and horrified Wanda.

Her breathing was shallow like she just saw the scariest thing.

"No." She said, and she quickly made her way to her feet.

Turning to look through the glass, seeing the doctors working on you.

"Her heart rate." A nurse said to the surgeon.

"She's hemorrhaging." The doctor replied as he and other doctors began working faster.

Wanda gripped her chest and she watched in horror.

Bucky tightly closed his eyes. Pained to hear what was coming through the intercom.

His eyes snapped open at the sound of Wanda rushing to the door, trying to get into the locked operating room.

She frantically tried to open the door but failed.

She rushes back to the intercom, pushing the speak button.

"Y/n. It's me. Wanda."

Bucky was looking up at Wanda.

The surgeons glanced back towards the window at Wanda, before immediately continuing to work on helping you.

"He's not there y/n. He's dead. He's dead." She said in a pleading tone.

She held the talk button, holding her breath.

Wanda and Bucky held their breath.

The heart monitor began slowing down, returning to normal.

"The bleeding stopped." The doctor said,

"We need to get the bullet out and finish the repair." The doctor said more firmly.

Wanda let out a staggered breath, sinking to the floor.

On her knees, staring at the wall.

"Who was that man?!" Bucky said,

Wanda continued looking at the wall in front of her in silence.

She let out a breath, turning her face towards Bucky.

"Her father.."
