But for some reason, there was an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach. It was too perfect. Jungwon and Kyungmi were happy and were sneaking around without getting caught. It was almost like the calm before the storm.
Even though Jungwon had continuously assured Kyungmi that everything would be okay, it wasn't something that she could just shake off.
Once the two were done with their shopping, they had to rush back to the boy's dorms. They were having their little party there and still needed to get everything prepared before the boys came back. They were still at the company doing whatever it was that they needed to prepare for the announcement of their comeback.
Taeri was waiting at the dorm already and was setting up the decorations. Sunghoon had given her his key so that they could get inside. This was the only way they were going to be able to pull this off without getting caught. They had the entire thing figured out. There were a few tweaks in the plan, but for the most part, they were able to work around it.
Taeri was in charge of setting up the decorations while Kyungmi and Maeyeong were in charge of cooking and preparing the snacks. The three of them were running around, the clock ticking. They wanted to make sure that everything would be done before the boys came back.
Kyungmi's ringtone blared making the three girls jump. Kyungmi smiled awkwardly in an attempt to apologize before quickly answering the phone. "Hello?"
"Nuna," Niki piped up on the other line.
"Niki-ya. What's up?"
Kyungmi was finishing up working on the last of the food so she placed Niki on speaker. "I had a quick question for you," he said.
Kyungmi turned her head to look at the phone with a curious expression, "okay...?" Her tone was hesitant making Niki chuckle lightly.
"It's nothing bad, I promise."
"Okay. So why can't you ask me when you get here?"
Niki made a sound of realization. "You're right. I forgot you guys were at the dorm already," Niki stated.
Maeyeong snatched the phone out of Kyungmi's hands before Kyungmi could process what was happening. "Niki-ssi, leave Kyungmi eonnie alone. We still aren't done preparing for everything," Maeyeong hung up on Niki before he could reply and handed Kyungmi her phone back.
"Damn, Maeyeong. That was rude," Kyungmi scolded.
Maeyeong shrugged her shoulders before moving back to doing whatever she was doing before. Kyungmi sighed heavily before turning her attention back to the food. The girls were able to finish everything with enough time to sit down for a couple of minutes before the boys came back.
Taeri continued to steal glances at Kyungmi while Kyungmi pretended not to notice. Maeyeong was curled up on the end of the couch playing a game on her phone. The girls allowed the silence to fall over them, simply waiting for the remaining party members to join.
"Kyungmi-ya," Taeri gently called out. Kyungmi stiffened while Maeyeong snapped her head up to look between the two.
"What, Taeri?"
The emotionless tone made Taeri's confidence drop even lower. She wanted to apologize. Beg for Kyungmi's forgiveness. Tell her how much she missed her, but she was having a hard time building her confidence. "Can you at least look at me?"
Kyungmi turned around, her face blank. She was on the verge of breaking. She missed Taeri too, but she needed Taeri to understand that words have consequences just like actions do and that sometimes her words can be very hurtful.
"Could you give me a minute? I want to talk," Taeri stated. Not wanting to make Kyungmi think that she was trying to force her to talk. Kyungmi nudged her head, urging Taeri to start talking. "Okay, I just want to tell you I'm sorry. I know that I've fucked up. And I know that if you weren't so persistent in the past, we wouldn't have still been friends. But, I'm asking you for one last chance. That's it. That's all I need. I want one last chance to show you that I could be as good of a friend as you are. I want to show you how much you matter to me. How much you mean to me. So please, stop shutting me out."
Taeri's tone was pleading. She sounded desperate. Kyungmi eyed Taeri, not sure what to do. She wasn't sure if this was something she could continuously move past. Kyungmi sighed before scooting in. "Taeri-ya. You need to understand that just because you are mad, it doesn't give you the right to kick someone down. Every time we get into a major argument you continue to bring up my father," Kyungmi stated. Taeri's face fell, guilt plastered as her new expression. "That isn't right. You know that. And if I'm being honest, I don't know if I can continue to forgive you for this. Or even if I want to."
Maeyeong looked away with a disappointed expression. She was really hoping that Kyungmi and Taeri could work out their issues and go back to being their goofy selves. Taeri looked completely devastated. She wasn't ready for Kyungmi to refuse her.
Although she had prepared herself for Kyungmi to reject her, she didn't think it'd hurt as much as it did.
"But, I'm willing to try."
Taeri and Maeyeong both looked up at Kyungmi with hopeful eyes. Taeri tossed herself on Kyungmi, engulfing her in a hug. Kyungmi was taken back, she wasn't expecting this type of reaction. "Thank you, Nam Kyungmi. I promise that I won't let you down."
