"Your Beta is looking for you, Peter. I believe now would be a good time to go see him." Misty advised, giving Peter a small nudge away from the Group. He slowly nodded, turning on his heel and stalking into the parting crowd. Misty looked back at Max, blushing when she saw his shock on his face.
"I get around with the Alphas, Max." Misty purred, winking before following after Peter into the crowd. Max could only watch in shock.
"Don't get tangled up with her. She gets around, but not in the way you think. She's the biggest slut I've ever met. She may have power and information, but at least we have our virginity." Axis growled and Max jumped, looking down at the small girl. Her hands were clenched into fists at her sides and she looked ready to tear Misty limb from limb. Max decided it was probably a smart idea to listen to what his Beta had to say.
"Yes Beta." Max murmured, watching Misty disappear in the crowd of people.
Axis just huffed, leaning against the wall behind her and glaring at the floor. Max sensed some sort of jealousy between the girl and Misty but he wasn't going to state his question. Axis may have been a friend, but he didn't trust her not to kill him if he asked such a simple question. He had seen her temper flare enough times to know that when she was mad she was unforgiving.
"And don't piss off Peter. His temper is worse than Tempest's. I would hate to find your body in the gym one morning." Axis advised, not looking up from her gaze on the floor. Max could only stare at her, unable to create words. Thankfully someone found him before he had the chance to reopen his mouth.
"Max!" a voice gasped loudly and Max jumped, looking over his shoulder to see Mathew staring up at him with a cheeky smile on his face. Max raised his eyebrows in surprise, turning around and giving his friend his full attention. The two of them hadn't seen each other since Max's Group had gone out on his first mission.
From what Max had gathered, Mathew had yet to go out on a mission and it was obvious. He lacked the hard edge Max saw on the veterans and did he have a single cut on him. He still looked full of energy and if Max would have guessed, Mathew had never gotten less than eight hours of sleep in his life. The most Mathew seemed to have done in his life was probably some training. Other than that he looked like he was still living the soft life of someone that had yet to be a real subject.
"You look dreadful, Max!" Mathew observed, worry clear in his gaze. Max scoffed, shaking his head.
"You haven't seen shit yet, my friend. I've been through hell and back about seven times in the past week." Max chuckled, winking at Mathew. The boy's face paled and he looked as if he were going to pass out.
"You mean...it gets worse?" Mathew murmured, his eyes widening. The look on his face was priceless.
"Just wait, being out on the mission is unbearable. But it gives you the craziest rush." Max teased, giving Mathew a slap on the back. Mathew stumbled away from him, looking as if he were going to be sick. Max forced himself not to laugh, knowing it would only upset Mathew more.
"Are you really scaring the poor newbie like that? He hasn't even been on a mission yet." A voice joked and Max looked over his shoulder, seeing two men staring at him. The one who spoke had long blonde hair pulled back into a bun, his grey eyes sparkling. He had on the same grey jumpsuit as everyone else and the bottoms were tucked into black combat boots.
The other man was the complete opposite. He had short brown hair and light brown eyes. His skin was a mix between pale and tan and he looked troubled, his hands deep in his pockets. He didn't have any shoes on, leaving his feet only covered by a pair of white socks. The man continued to fiddle with his dog tag, every so often glancing over his shoulder as if something had spooked him. His actions were peculiar, but the nervous look in his eye was even more so.
