(Four years in the past)

Max glared down from the beams of the second floor training room. Below him Taylor was crouched behind one of the walls of a makeshift maze, peeking out to get a view around the corner. Little did he know Max was above him, watching Taylor like a hunter stalking his prey.

"Hold, Sigma." Misty's voice ordered and he remained in place, holding onto the beam tightly. The Group had been training since they had gotten back, even Taylor refusing to rest his hurt leg. The training room had been turned into a maze and the concept was to find and pin your opponent before they found you. Max had found Taylor with ease; his cast had made him slow and loud. All Max had to do was wait for Misty's order and he would take Taylor down with ease.

"Go." Misty ordered and Max leapt from the beans, Taylor looking up at him too late as Max landed on his back. Taylor yelped in surprise, letting himself be pinned with ease. Max smirked, stepping off the Gamma and removing the earpiece from his ear. Taylor rolled onto his back, glaring up at Max. The Sigma grinned down at his friend, reaching down and helping him to his feet. Taylor stumbled, leaning against the wall for support.

"Please exit the second training level and head to the first floor. Next training exercise begins in ten minutes. All Groups please report to the first floor." A voice on the intercom ordered and the walls of the maze sank into the floor, the exit right in front of them. Max let Taylor lean on him as they hobbled to the elevator, getting in and punching the first floor button. The elevator music filled the silence and Max could hear the static coming from his earpiece in his pocket.

The elevator doors opened and the two stepped out. Misty was waiting with a pair of crutches, handing them to Taylor before whispering something in his ear. Taylor slowly nodded, turning around and beginning to limp in the opposite direction of where they were supposed to be going. Max opened his mouth to call after him but Misty put her hand on his arm, shaking her head. He frowned but began following her toward the large Groups beginning to gather. Misty ducked into the crowd, glancing back at him one last time before disappearing from sight. Max groaned, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jump suit as he searched for his group.

Max pushed his way through the loud Groups, his eyes landing on the dark skin of Axis. She was standing with a large man, his arms crossed over his chest. Large scars like claw marks ran over the left side of his face and over other various parts of his body. He had shaggy, black hair and dark eyes, the gaze sweeping over the other people around him. He had a blue dog tag on his neck as well as a hookah shell necklace, looking large and menacing.

"Max, come here." Axis called when she noticed Max standing on his own. He did as she asked, noticing Alexandra and Tempest standing on the other side of Axis. Tempest had his forehead resting on Alexandra's shoulder, his eyes closed, looking as if he were sleeping. Alexandra was staring blankly at what was probably Leon's dog tag as she mumbled something to Tempest, probably talking to him in an attempt to get her mind of her lost friend.

"This is Peter, the Alpha of Group I. Peter; this is Max, our Sigma." Axis introduced the two. Neither of them offered a handshake, instead staring at each other. Max narrowed his eyes at the man, already sensing that the Alpha didn't like him. The feeling is mutual. Max thought angrily.

"You were the one who found Collan's body?" Peter asked in a monotone voice, his eyes darkening when Max nodded. Axis watched the two closely, raising her eyebrows.

"We grew up together here. He was like a brother to me, my best mate." Peter growled. Max narrowed his eyes.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Max murmured. Peter's eyes lit with an outraged fire but he wasn't able to say anything. Out of nowhere Misty appeared next to him, a sly smile on her face. Peter's face slightly softened, something that looked more like a grimace forming on his face than a smile. Misty shot Max a warning glance, slightly shaking her head to keep Max silent. He bit his tongue, silently agreeing.
