Spring

Back in the real world a phone starts going off. "Geez. Come on, people" Luke scolds. "Not mine" everyone else says as they check their phones.

"Uh, Luke" Jamie says.

"What?" Luke looks over before realizing the ringing phone was in his pocket. "Oh, shoot. Why is this ringing?" he asks.

"Someone's calling you" Lorelai answers. "Nobody calls me at night" Luke says confused. "Come on, Luke, turn off your cell. It's distracting" Babette tells him.

Over in her area she's spraying the grill to put out the flame.

"That enough baby?" Babette asks Morey. "That ought to do it" he tells her.

"Who do we know in the 8-6-0?" Luke asks not recognizing the phone number. "Grandma" Victoria answers still focused on the movie, not really thinking about what she's saying. "Grandma" she gasps when she realizes.

"Grandma? That's my mother" Lorelai says horrified that she'd be calling Luke.

"Why is your mother calling me?" Luke asks. "I don't know" Lorelai answers.

"She never calls me" Luke says. "Don't pick up" Lorelai tells him. "I'm not picking up. Why is this ringing so much?" Luke asks shocked that it's still ringing.

"Maybe because that's the same phone Alexander Graham Bell yelled, Watson come here I want you, into" Victoria comments.

On screen Kirk's carrying what's obviously a stuffed animal pretending it's dead Petal when a woman screams. "She left a message" Luke notices still looking at his phone.

"Here" Lorelai takes the phone to listen to it herself. Everything's quiet for a moment while her family watches her. "What? No" Lorelai's eyes widen.

"What? What?" Victoria asks dying of curiosity.

"That's not happening" Lorelai says. "What's not happening?" Luke asks.

"She wants you to come over for dinner sometime next week" Lorelai's answers. "Me?" Luke asks her. "Yes" Lorelai confirms.

"Just him?" Victoria ask.

"Just him" Lorelai repeats as a statement. "That's not happening" Luke says.

"She says she has an urgent matter she needs to discuss with you" Lorelai says still listening to the message. "What is it?" Victoria asks. "I don't know" Lorelai shakes her head.

"How did she get my number?" Luke asks her.

"I don't know" Lorelai repeats. "Why?" Luke asks.

"Why?" Lorelai asks from return. "Why?" movie Kirk yells holding fake Petal's supposedly dead body when real Petal runs into frame. "We should probably paint that out" real Kirk whispers to Lulu.

"What if I just stay here and you can go instead?" Victoria suggests.

In her apartment she's laying on her side on her with one hand holding up her head and the other petting the old cat that's laying next to her while Lane digs through her closet. "No" Lane says.

"Why not?" Victoria pouts. "Because I don't think I'm the one he's looking forward to seeing" Lane laughs. "That's fine, I don't think he's looking forward to seeing me either" Victoria tells her.

"Well Dugray, Victoria is already on the visitor sheet for today so even if he's not looking forward to it, he's definitely expecting it" Lane points out.

"How often are people's expectations really met?" Victoria replies. "Victoria" Lane gives her a look.

"It's gonna be weird" Victoria complains. "Good, get that weirdness out of the way now so it's less weird when he comes home next week" Lane tells her. "But-" Victoria tries.
