Chapter Five:

                    <<<<Hadiza's pov>>>>

"So, for the presentation, you all will be paired into two. The two partners will have to work hard to make the topic presentable. Am I clear?" The chemistry teacher, Mrs Obembe said.

She had decided to give us a project that all we all had to participate in. She wasn't an easy teacher, so we had to work hard for our marks.

I was seated on my seat, paying close attention to the woman but also hoping that Mrs Obembe would pair me up with my best friend.

I definitely wouldn't be able to survive if my partner wasn't Diana. I thought.

The class had turned rowdy now, as Mrs Obembe called out the names of students being paired together.

"Erica and Chike."

At the mention of the names, Erica screamed and ran all the way to Chike's seat as she keep pushing herself to him. The poor boy had a look of disgust on his face while staring at the girl. The novel, Daughters Who Walk This Path by Yejide Kilanko which he had on his hands was now on the floor beside his desk.

"Ahh, this is one of my best novels. I have read it many times. I can even read it without the book." The girl, Erica exclaimed as almost the whole class turned their attention to her.

"Abeg, go sit down." Conrad randomly spoke, rolling his eyes as he placed his left hand at the back of the chair.

"We know you know it." Another spoke.

Daniel still stared at her with no facial expression and then spoke; "Give me a brief summary of this novel."

Erica's mouth sealed. "What would she say?"

"Oya na talk."

"I too know."

"See the way she is looking."

Those were the words that my classmates murmured and I giggled quietly.

The whole class including Mrs Obembe now seemed interested in the conversation between Daniel and Erica.

"I.....can....not...re..me...mber...." Erica stammered, crashing the back of her head. Everybody bursted into laughter.

"Dodomu, see your life." Conrad said in between his laughter.

Mrs Obembe had cautioned my classmates. "If I should hear one more word or sound from your dirty mouths, I will punish the whole class."

"Diana and Joshua." She continued.

"Sophie and temi."

"Fabiola and Hadiza.".

Mrs obembe continued announcing the pairs as the students called went to the seats of their partners.

Diana looked Hadiza's way as she tried to say something.

My eyes widened and my surroundings suddenly stilled. One of my greatest fears had happened, I was paired with Fabiola.

I groaned in frustration.

Why her, of all the people?

No way, I needed to switch partners. Somehow. Anyhow!
