“It’s snowing,” she murmured so quietly I wasn’t sure I’d heard her in the

first place.

“What?” I looked around, but saw nothing.

“It’s snowing.”

“No, it’s not. You’re delusional,” I said. It was funny how natural I felt

around Kyree- Ree- and how I could joke around her without being afraid of her

taking it the wrong way. I liked that. It was…different.

“Haha. Very funny. But, seriously, it’s really snowing.” She took another

sip of the hot chocolate and I watched the steam billow away into the night.

“If it’s snowing, why don’t I see any snow?” I asked casually, following her

gaze up into the sky.

“I don’t know. God,” she snapped back. She hated being wrong- that much

I’d gathered from our conversations at dinner. But, as if to prove her point,

another flake floated down in front of my face, and I barely had time to say, “Hey,

Ree, guess what? It’s snowing,” before the snow-downpour began.

“Who’s talking now?” she said through her giggles. I pulled her after me as

we stumbled away towards the car. Stumbling and laughing.

And I did not want to say goodbye that night. Not ever. Kyree was the one

thing that had been missing in my life. I needed her like she needed me.
