Background Information: Akemi Amaterasu is the only child and daughter of King and Queen Amaterasu. She is also the Ultimate Royal and the heir to the throne of Japan.

Akemi is part of the Royal Elite High School, later transferring to Hope's Peak Academy. As beautiful and elegant as a royal princess normally is, Akemi is more tomboyish, generous, and empathetic towards her family and friends.

Despite this, she does feel slightly insecure, afraid that people only hang out with her due to her royal status. Luckily, Akemi is still a strong character and believes that people are innocent until proven guilty, even if they bother her.

Enrolled in Hope's Peak Academy, here she is in the middle of a deadly game, surrounded by participants, she will have to use intelligence and willpower to get out of it alive. Over the course of the series, Akemi slowly starts to fall in love with fellow student, Naegi Makoto, and is the main source of encouragement to him whenever he starts to lose hope.

After finding out that her parents were killed by members of the Ultimate Despair (lead by Junko Enoshima) during The Tragedy, she inspires to join Future Foundation and help them rebuild the world. Because she's the symbol of hope for people, the Remnants of Despair now seek to capture and/or eliminate Akemi and bring back despair across the globe.
