Gwen and Liz had wandered the desert for over twenty minutes.
"How are we supposed to amuse our kidnapper if there's nothing to do or find?" said Gwen frustrated.
They didn't seem to be any closer to finding Alex, Peter, Rose or Sam.
Liz replied, "Maybe they enjoy watching people dehydrate. Although, it's not bad here. The air's not dry, it's the perfect temperature. It's like a comfortable walk, a long one if this continues, with a killer somewhere on the loose who could appear at any moment and attack us."
"That sounds like a horrible movie."
"A horrible movie that's our life right now."
"I hope the other terrains are more exciting. I liked your idea about a place with a lot of trees. Maybe a jungle. It sounds a lot nicer than here."
"Except for the animals that live in them. I take back what I said earlier. I hope Peter isn't in a forest or a jungle."
"Maybe he found someone else like how I found you."
"Or someone found him the way I found that being earlier."
"Let's not think like that. Peter will be okay. He's resourceful at the most surprising times. He's always the first to get some light when there's a power outage at home. He's okay. He has to be."
"Now I want to be with him the next time we lose power. You're right. We should stay positive. He's ok. We'll find him alive. Let's say the others found one other person. Who do you think found who?"
"Maybe Sam found Peter. Before you came along, Sam was the one who scared the bullies."
"What if he's with Rose? He'd be even safer... kind of. I can sense she has more power but it's like she won't use it."
"I haven't noticed. Is sensing abilities something else you can do?"
"No, I can't sense like that. I knew someone who could when I was a kid. She thought me a few things about reading what people might be capable of."
"And you think Rose is more powerful than we're led to believe but won't hurt us?"
"Having great power doesn't mean you're going to use it on those around you."
"Or that's why she's holding back. She needs to control herself."
"Back to the subject of Rose's dark side. If you want to break up with her, break up with her."
"I can't."
"Because you think she'll hurt you?"
Gwen answered quickly, "No."
"Then why?"
"I don't know. It's like I want us to be closer but at the same time, I don't." Gwen wondered why she admitted it to Liz. She was annoyed with their walk and had been keeping the information to herself for two months.
"Maybe it's not her dark side you're afraid of but her seeing yours?"
"I don't have a dark side."
"We all have a dark side. You can call it other things like our weaknesses, our deepest secrets, all those things we keep to ourselves afraid of being judged on."
"Okay, with that wording, maybe."
"You have to let her in eventually."
"Why? We're fine where we are. Why can't we..."
"Why can't you what?"
"Nothing."
"Oh, c'mon. I'm curious. Or did you stop because you realized everything isn't fine?"
Gwen shrugged her shoulders as a response so Liz changed the topic of conversation.

Twenty minutes later,
Liz said, "Wait here, I have to pee."
"Where?"
"Over there."
Liz jogged to create some distance between the two of them.Gwen spoke to herself as she turned away. "I'm definitely not peeing anytime soon."

Alex and Peter floated around the snowy terrain. They had hit an invisible wall about fifteen minutes prior and were forced to turn back around.
Peter said, "I wouldn't mind having this power. It's really useful and non-violent. Do you like your powers?"
Alex replied, "Yeah, they're cool."
"I'd offer people rides all the time. Maybe they'd even offer me money for it. That'd be a cool job. It took me a while to adjust to this. It's still a little weird but I'm starting to enjoy it."
"It's always felt fine to me. When I visit the countryside, I wander in the sky. It's a great view."
"I bet. I want to do that. I hope we'll get a chance when we get back. I was really worried that I was going to die before you showed up. I started considering my regrets. I think we're going to be okay now."
"Most likely. We still don't know how to get out of here. We seem to be inside an invisible dome."
"Maybe Sam could burn through it. Or Gwen and Rose could make a portal... let's keep that as a last resort."
"I know what you mean. I'm not interested in any more alternate world travelling for another month or two."
"Just one or two months?" asked Peter.
"It was pretty cool. Next time though, it'd be nice to have the control to get back."
Their conversation ended when they spotted two human-sized unmoving figures in the snow. Alex approached the bodies. When she was close enough to confirm that the beings were purple and strangers, a round green object flew at her. She deflected it back in the direction in which it had been thrown. The one who had attacked them dodged it and ran off. Alex and Peter fixed their attention back to the figures on the ground. They were dead.
Peter covered his eyes and mumbled, "Not happening, not happening."
Alex brought the two of them higher in the air. She continued moving across the region searching for her friends while Peter dealt with what he had seen.
