Fighting for something that you're not even sure of

These cuts will slowly heal but the memories never will

As the scarlet rivers flow down to the fallen soul

It seems that war was the only real goal

And with the soldiers that holds their tears in their eyes

We bear our misery knowing that our government lies

Telling us who to love, who to hug, and who to hate

I guess that this was our fate

But what ever happen to the saying "We the people"

It broke off and now we're saying that "Corporations are evil"

The companies swimming in green while kids are starving

And our national debt is only enlarging

What would you do if you only knew the truth?

Would you fight back Yelling "our nation is corrupt"

Or are you too afraid to seek the change

To make things right?

We bomb things for the sake of controlling others

Killing people off, losing their fathers and mothers

As we smile and scream that we're "the land of the free"

Waving our flag in the sake of liberty

As we shake hands with the countries who we call our friends

We hold a knife to our back

Getting ready to attack

Unable to trust in this horrible cruel world

As the innocence is shattered in the eyes of a little girl

We fall easily into the Seven Deadly Sins

Our Pride, Our Lust, Our Wrath, Our Sloth, Our Envy, Our Greed, Our Gluttony

It's all tearing us apart

Why do we even start fighting?

What are we fighting for?

It's not for the sake of freedom

I know that's for sure

Going to war for the money of the highest bidder

Can you not see what we're doing to the world

We let rich people make up all the rules

As families turn homeless and left up on the streets

The kids wondering "why did this happen to me?"

Even schools turn into an educational prison

Drilling in our heads what we're supposed to know before we go to bed

Only showing us of a black-and-white world

Erasing the colors of this once beautiful world

Destroying the minds of a creative thinker

What we draw and write is simply a part of what we have to say

But we know that it would never reach your ears

As you walk away, unaware of our tears

Okay

Well, this was quite a turn from the pervious poems from before. I wrote this right after my history teacher showed us a documentary about America called "What are we fighting for?" (at least that's what I remember her saying it was called).  I felt like the way that we Americans are living isn't right and felt like I had to write something about it (I think the video really got to me at the time).  I only listened to a beginning of a song and BAM! This poem was born! I only kept listening to the first part (so about 40 seconds in the song).
