Class finally finished and Ella ran back to Gryffindor tower to drop her things off and change.

She pulled on a Gryffindor hoody and ran out of her dorm nearly knocking into a first year.

"Sorry" she shouted as she hurried outside.

It was a chilly autumn day and it was only growing cooler as the sun began to set.

When Ella arrived at the pitch she saw Fabian in the middle of the field.

The wind blew her hair into her face and she brushed it away as she approached the older boy.

"Bit windy out but we'll make it work" Fabian chuckled.

Ella nodded and put her long blond hair into a ponytail.

"So I just thought we'd have some practice with the bat on the ground today" he explained handing the wooden bat to her.

"Sounds good" she smiled
"I'm up for anything"

Fabian chuckled and walked a few paces away to the chest holding the bludger.

"The most important skill that you'll have to develop is anticipating the behavior of the bludger" he told her.

Ella nodded listening intently. Fabian leaned down and locked eyes with her.

"Ready?"
"Ready" she said nodding and gripping the bat tightly.

He released the bludger and it went flying.

It disappeared high into the sky and Ella waited, listening.

She heard the rush of air and turned her body towards the sound.

The ball reappeared hurtling towards her and she struck it sending it back towards the castle.

"Brilliant!" Fabian shouted jumping up
"Keep it up"

By the time the sun had set and darkness blanketed the castle Ella was out of breath and exhausted.

"Great job today" Fabian said putting the equipment away.

"Thanks" she breathed out
"You think I'll be ready for our first match next month?"

"Definitely" he reassured her with a pat on the shoulder.

Ella smiled and they walked in a comfortable silence back to the castle.

When she paused outside of the great hall Fabian looked down at her.

"I'm off to find the lads" she told him
"See you around" he waved and turned to the stairs.

Ella ran into the great hall and immediately spotted her friends.

Unfortunately she ran into someone on the way and fell to the ground.

"Watch where you're going" Regulus said.

She looked up and met his cold gray eyes. They were striking and for a moment she couldn't look away.

"Are you hurt?" He asked looking annoyed
"No...no" she said shaking her head and getting to her feet.

"Then don't let it happen again" Regulus grumbled and walked off.

"Lovely run in with little Reggie I take it?" Sirius teased as she approached the table

"Fuck off" Ella said sitting down across from Peter

"How was practice?" James asked immediately.

"Absolutely brilliant" she gushed filling him in on all the details.
