Willow nodded when his voice drifted off, her words making their impact. It was the reason she hadn't spoken with him much since the accident. Everyone claimed it wasn't her fault — but they were wrong.
She couldn't remember much from that night, just her mother dying and Dominik's empty eyes. But James was there — he'd told her. As cruel and manipulative as he could be — why would he lie about it?
He'd saved her from being arrested, bought the cops off. He'd saved her life that night, and she'd taken the lives of two people she loved most in the world.
"Your mom wouldn't blame you."
Willow wiped the tears from her cheek at her dad's words after a few minutes of silence.
"Yes she would. She'd call me an idiot and put me in rehab."
"Yeah, well, rightfully so, you did get her killed, honey."
Willow couldn't help but laugh at her dad's poor sense of humor.
"Dad, that's awful."
"She'd find it funny."
"Yeah," Willow laughed again. "She would."
"You can't blame yourself. Just understand that it happened and work past it," he continued seriously. "You have a second chance. Your mom doesn't. She'd want you to make the most of it. Put the bottle down, stop going to parties, keep hanging with Pedro, I like him. He's much better than James. Kid is garbage."
"Rob says the same thing," she smiled. "Maybe I should listen to you guys."
"For once in your life? I'd say so."
"I like Pedro too," Willow added with a small smile. "A lot. He's...calm. And good. And makes me laugh."
"Good." She could hear his smile through the call. "If he doesn't have a sense of humor, he shouldn't date a Sandler."
"Yeah, yeah, heard you the first million times."
"I love you, peanut. Please be safe. And text me at least once a week, shit, I just worry about you."
"Okay," Willow laughed lightly. "I will, I'm sorry. I didn't — I...thank you for not being mad."
"I've never been mad at you for your entire life, Will. You could never make me angry. I'm proud you haven't given up and that you're not going back there. Keep making good decisions and keep your head up."
"Okay, I will. I'll talk to you soon."
"See you, kid."
"Bye."
