13. it doesn't... fuck it, it counts

Start from the beginning

"Dating someone?"

"Mhm." He shrugs. "I thought I was ace, or whatever the fuck Hange calls it."

You can't help it; you smile. "Asexual?"

"Asexual, aromantic, whatever the fuck it is. The one where you don't like people."

"Asexual and aromantic people can like other people," you say with a silly grin. He's adorable, honestly. "It's just not necessarily romantic or sexual. I think."

He shrugs again. "I just hate people."

You laugh. "I gathered that."

Levi reaches for you, hand going to your face. His thumb traces over your cheekbone. "We keep saying tomorrow," he murmurs. "We'll talk about this tomorrow. We say that a lot. Can we make it today?"

You cover his hand with yours, beaming. "Today sounds great."

"Today," Levi agrees.

He's sitting up, so in the spirit of showing him that you're invested in this conversation, you sit yourself up too. You lace your fingers with Levi's, and your locked hands drop between the two of you. You reach for his other hand too, so that the two of you are sitting across from each other and holding hands.

Okay. Here goes nothing. "So, uh..." you trail off. "Are you? Asexual? Or aromantic?"

You don't think he is, not after last night, but it doesn't hurt to ask. "I don't know," Levi says with a shrug. "Never met anyone that made me think otherwise." Your grip tightens slightly on his hands, and he adds, "until now."

You feel some of the tension in your shoulders release. "So," you continue, trying to pop the question. "Do you want to?..."

"Date?" Levi finishes. He looks away. "I don't know." He thinks for a minute, curses under his breath, then mutters, "I just know I want you and I don't want anyone else to have you. Is that dating?"

Heat explodes in your chest. "Quite possessive of you."

His eyebrows knit together. Levi glares at you, but you can see that he's thinking, so you fight back a smile and wait. It takes him a while, but he decides on, "I don't want you to want anyone else."

"Worse," you admit, but you're smiling.

Levi scowls. "I want..." he trails off, then settles on, "I want you to want me."

You don't think you've ever smiled harder in your life. "Easy. Done."

He straightens up a bit. He almost looks pleased. "So, that's it. We're dating."

"Well, you haven't asked me yet. Asked me out."

"Fine. Be my girlfriend."

"That's not asking. That's a statement."

"I was asking."

"No, you weren't."

Levi sighs. "Be my girlfriend?" he tries again.

You feel like you could burst from how happy you feel, but you try to play it cool. "Maybe."

"Maybe?" Levi challenges, and he lets go of your hands. "Fuck off."

You can't contain yourself anymore, and you laugh. "Yes," you say easily. "Yeah, let's..." you trail off as you remember what he said earlier. "Let's do it scared."

Levi's lips twitch. He almost looks like he's smiling as he murmurs, "let's do it scared," and his fingertips slide along your jaw as he leans in.

And fuck, you feel warm. Your entire body feels like it's on fire as he kisses you, hand hot on your face, lips soft. He smells really damn good, and his hair is still the slightest bit damp when you slide your fingers through it. You're reminded of last night, of how gentle he was with you, how good he felt.
