Niccolo's eyebrows rise. "Really?"
"Fuck yeah!" Jean crows, raising his hand for a high-five. "About damn time!"
You sigh, but you high-five him, and you feel a bit better. "Marco can give you the rundown," you tell him. "Thanks for your help."
He gives you a hug. "I get it," Jean offers, shrugging as he pulls back. "It was still good seeing you though."
"Same," Niccolo agrees, and he hugs you next. "Next year?"
"Who knows," you say with a sigh. "Thank you both again. And thank the others for me."
You slide yourself into the passenger side of Levi's car as both men wave to you and then head back towards the cottage. You sigh in relief as you close the door; it's so warm. Then, you exhale, pressing your hands to your face. God, you can't believe that actually just happened.
Something touches your leg, and you look up. Levi's got his hand on your thigh. He's looking at you, one eyebrow raised, a silent question. You nod in response, swallowing hard to get rid of the lump in your throat, and you lean back into the seat, willing your anxiety to vanish.
Levi's hand squeezes. "I'm proud of you," he murmurs.
Your heart does happy flips in your chest. "Couldn't have done it without you," you reply quietly.
"It was all you." Levi lets go of you so that he can slide his seatbelt on. "Seatbelt," he instructs as he starts to reverse out of the snowy driveway. You oblige, biting back the smile that threatens to split your face in two as Levi's hand returns to your thigh after he's finished reversing and shifted the car into drive.
When he turns onto the main road and starts to drive, hand moving back onto your thigh, you settle your left hand over his right. Levi flips his palm up, and you lock your fingers together, holding tight.
Heart happy and hand warm, you smile as Levi starts to drive, away from that dreaded cottage and off to somewhere just for you two.
.
The drive takes a while.
You're okay with that. You need the time to decompress, to totally process how you left the cottage and what kind of consequences you might be left with. You sleep a bit, fingers still loosely intertwined with Levi's. He doesn't seem to mind, because he keeps your locked hands on your thigh for most of the drive.
You stop for dinner at some point, and Levi doesn't let you pay for it. The restaurant's painfully busy, and the stop combined with traffic means that you don't end up getting to your hotel until late.
And fucking hell is it a nice hotel. It's nicer than any hotel you've ever stayed in, at least, with a massive entryway with marble floors and columns wrapped in gold trim. A concierge takes your bags as Levi checks in at the front and you gape at the sheer size of the lobby and how fancy everything is. This is insane, you think to yourself as Levi gets the keycards to the room.
You follow the concierge towards the elevators and Levi punches the button for the twelfth floor. Your room is at the end of the hall, and the concierge opens the door for you, then sets your bags inside and leaves the two of you alone.
"You're catching flies," Levi says dryly as he pulls the bags further into the room.
You can't help it. The room is massive, and the king bed is huge- not quite as big as Levi's bed, but hey, you're easily impressed. "The room's nice," you defend, taking your bag and moving it towards one side of the room. "Really nice," you add, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "God, this mattress is as nice as yours."
