12. it doesn't count on new year's [nsfw]

"A last minute reservation? That can't be cheap."

"I'll use my stepfather's credit card. He's desperate to pay for things for me, isn't he?" he says, bitterness seeping into his tone. "He can pay. I doubt he'll notice, and if he does, I'll deal with it."

"Levi," you start, but you can't even think of what to say.

Levi waits until he sees you don't have anything else to say and he continues. "This is your family, and it's completely up to you what you want to do from here," Levi says. "I'm giving you an option."

Your lips part; still, no sound comes out. To offer something like this, something for your benefit, something that you don't even know if Levi wants because this could get him in trouble with his stepfather or-

"And," he says, interrupting your thoughts, "because I know all you're thinking about right now are my feelings, I'm telling you that I'm completely fine with this. It's no problem to me and I promise that this isn't bringing up anything between me and my stepfather. He'll hardly notice one payment to his credit card and if he does, I'll talk to him. It's no problem."

How can he do that? How can Levi just... know what you're thinking? God, you might tear up.

Levi moves towards you. "I'm sick and tired," he murmurs, "of seeing you scared to leave this damn room because of your family. I hate seeing how your mother treats you. You don't deserve that. You deserve better than what you have to deal with here."

Christ, are there tears forming in your eyes? You shuffle forward and wrap your arms around Levi's shoulders, bringing him into a tight hug. Levi doesn't respond right away, instead choosing to lock up, but after a second or two, he relaxes. His arms tentatively go around your waist, like he's not quite sure how to hold you, but once he's got you, his grip tightens .

You blink back your blurry vision as you pull back from him, biting the inside of your cheek. "Okay," you agree weakly, nodding. "Okay. Let's go."

His eyebrows rise. "Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. I'll make the call, you pack."

"Okay."

"You're sure?"

"Yes."

"Okay." Levi stares at you for another second, like he's trying to make sure that you're sure about your answer, and you hope he doesn't see any hesitation on your face. He nods, then pulls back from you and swings his legs over the side of the bed.

Your teeth sink into the inside of your cheek as you hop out of bed and stumble to where your suitcase is, and you open it up. You'd never dream about going against your family like this- which is ridiculous, because you're not really 'going against' your family, but this sure as hell feels like rebellion when you've spent your entire life listening to everything they've told you. Besides your degree, of course, but they don't know about that.

You start opening drawers and tucking your clothing into your suitcase, folding them up as best you can with shaky hands. "Hi," Levi says, and you turn to him, but he's talking into his phone, not to you. "Looking to book one of your rooms for tonight, if you've got any availability left. Or any cancellations."

This is actually happening. Heart racing, you turn back to your bag, packing with a bit more urgency and setting aside some clothes that you want to change into.

"Two queen beds, if you have it," Levi's saying from across the room. You're equal parts focused on your packing and focused on eavesdropping on his conversation. "Yeah? One second."

You sense that a question's coming your way, and you turn towards him, straightening up. "What is it?"

Levi's got his phone away from his ear; you can see on the screen that he's muted himself. "It's New Year's Eve, they're mostly booked," he says, and your heart twists in your chest until he adds, "but they've just had a cancellation and they've got a king suite."
