"You'd know about it if you were around," your mother chastises, looking at you, and your grip on Levi's hand tightens. "Yes, we'll leave after dinner, and we won't be back until maybe midnight? Perhaps after that."
Levi's thumbs starts rubbing the back of your hand. You bite back your remarks.
You stay quiet for the rest of dinner, which passes fairly quickly. Soon enough, all of the adults are out the door: your parents, your grandparents, and all of your aunts and uncles. Not long after that, Hitch and her boyfriend Marlowe have wrangled all of your younger cousins into their room for the night, and then...
"Drinks!" Sasha calls enthusiastically, holding up a tequila bottle in one hand and a case of six bottles in the other. "Woo!"
"Your cousins are drunks?" Levi murmurs as Niccolo runs after Sasha, trying to keep her from dropping anything.
You shrug. "It's not alcoholism when you're in college."
"Says who?"
"College students."
"A biased conclusion, then."
"Maybe," you agree, glancing at him. Ymir is yelling at people to gather in the main living room. "I know you said that you sometimes drink," you say, because that's something you two had discussed over dinner before all of this, "but how good's your tolerance?"
He shrugs. "I don't get drunk."
You blink. "You don't get drunk."
"That's what I said."
"How is that even possible?"
"Good metabolism."
"You're strange."
"Says you."
"Oi, you two!" Hitch calls. "Get in here!"
You lead and Levi follows as you head into the living room. Sasha, Niccolo, Jean, and Marco have claimed the massive couch, Ymir and Historia are cuddled up on the beanbag chair, and Hitch and Marlowe have settled in on one of the two armchairs. There's a table in the middle with piles of bottles and glasses already ready on it.
That leaves one armchair for you and Levi, and before you've got time to figure out exactly what your sitting situation is, Levi's collapsed into the chair. He pats his thigh, and you sit down, half on him and half on the chair cushion so you're in his lap. Levi's arm slips around your waist.
Well then. That was smoother than you were expecting it to be- kudos to Levi. "Drinking game time!" Hitch announces, setting a box on the table with two stacks of cards. "Couples' truth or dare!"
"Couldn't get something more original?" you murmur as Jean starts grabbing beer from the table.
"It's a classic," Marlowe argues.
"You tell him, babe," Hitch agrees, passing both you and Levi bottles from the table. "Besides, we- as in all of us," she explains, gesturing to everyone else in the room, "spent all week making these cards in anticipation, because you neglected to show up until today and we have to see what your man is made of!"
"Joy," Levi mutters.
"Be nice," you say, pointing at all of your cousins in turn. "I like this one."
"That's a first!" Ymir and Jean say at the same time, and they clink their bottles together as both Marco and Historia share a sigh.
Dutifully, you pick a truth card, and the game is underway. The card asks where you and Levi had sex for the first time, and you flub some answer about your bedroom before you pass the baton to Sasha. Levi's arm stays around you the whole time, fingers lightly drumming against your skin.
