"And I love her for it," Ymir gloats, kissing the side of Historia's head. "Makes our nights out cheap!"
"I do my part," Historia murmurs, face red but smiling widely.
Levi's got his shirt on and is leaning forward in the armchair, so instead of sitting on his lap again, you sit on the floor in front of the chair, between his legs. One of his hands finds purchase in your hair and his fingers start to rub small circles across your scalp. "You're the best," you say with a happy sigh.
Hitch spins on Marlowe. "He gives her massages. Why can't you give me massages?"
"Because you never sit still for long enough," Marlowe returns.
She frowns, then shrugs. "You're right. I don't."
Marlowe shoots you and Levi a look that reads see what I have to deal with? But the very next second, he's looking at Hitch with so much adoration in his eyes that it makes you smile. You just want someone to look at you like that.
You tip your head back. Levi's looking down at you from his spot on the chair; you feel small, sitting on the floor like this. "Hi," you say with a stupid smile.
His lips twitch. "Hi."
"Who's next?" Jean calls, breaking the moment.
You pat the side of Levi's knee. "You pick."
"Sasha and Niccolo," Levi says, and then the focus is finally off the two of you.
The two of them launch into another dare- something about a banana that Niccolo has to peel with his toes and feed to Sasha- but you're content to stay right here, sitting between Levi's legs with his fingers in your hair. God, you're comfy. And he's so nice to you- more than any sort of act would require. Right?
Unfortunately, your comfort is cut short when Jean reaches for a new beer bottle and accidentally bumps your half-filled one: it spills, splashing the front of your sweater and your pants. "Shit!" Jean curses, grabbing the bottle and setting it upright before it can cause more damage. "Sorry, didn't mean to."
"It's fine," you say quickly- he didn't spill too much. "It's- yeah, it's fine."
"You're such a klutz when you're drunk," Marco says affectionately.
Wait- this could be an opening to get out of here. This is fun, yes, but you're tired and your reaction time feels slow- you're tipsy. "I think that's our sign to call it a night," you say, patting Levi's leg and hoping he gets the hint. "I need to shower."
"Boo!" Ymir calls. "Where's your stamina?"
"Our car ride was at least six hours," you complain, frowning at her. "I'm exhausted."
"Exhausted from sitting in his fancy car?" Marlowe asks, and he looks to Levi. "Your car is so cool, by the way."
Levi doesn't reply, and you pinch his leg. "Thanks," he says awkwardly. "Yeah. I'll get her to bed."
A few more complaints, but ultimately, your friends bid you goodnight, and Levi takes your hand to help you to your feet and guides you down the hallway. "You good?" you murmur when you turn the corner, hopefully out of earshot of your cousins.
"Are you?" he asks, frowning at you.
"I'm fine. Barely even tipsy," you confess, and it's true. You get to your room, and Levi opens the door for you, then closes it when you're both inside. "And I need to shower so I can stop smelling like beer."
"You're okay to do that?"
"Yeah. I've had a few drinks, I'm not incapable."
He pauses, then nods. "Okay. Shower. I'm going to be right here."
