"Go a day without it, then," you tease quietly.
"Don't deprive me of tea on Christmas day. That's just cruel."
"Cons of fake dating me: cruel."
"Other cons: too nice to tell me what she's really thinking."
You pause, and Levi gestures to you to continue with the topic you'd barely managed to avoid: what you thought of his family. "The staff is- they're all so nice," you try, looking away. "And your mom is- she's so sweet."
"And my stepfather?" Levi asks.
God, where to start. You pinch your lips together and look away, wondering how mean you're allowed to be. "He's a dick," you settle on, looking back to Levi.
He nods. "He is."
"I'm allowed to say that?"
"You're allowed to say whatever you want."
"He's so rude to you," you say, now that you've gotten permission to speak your mind. "And for what? Because you're trying to build something for yourself and not rely on his money? Isn't that admirable? Why does he want you to be so dependent on him? He's brash, and his attitude towards you and his- his plain ignorance to your mother! God, he was awful. Tomorrow, if he says anything to me, I'll..."
You'll what? You don't really know. You'll probably try to avoid him at all costs. "Tomorrow?" Levi asks.
You frown. "Yeah. Tomorrow. Christmas."
"You want to stay." When your frown doesn't leave, he adds, "I figured after that catastrophe of a dinner, you'd want to hide in here. Or leave."
Oh. Well, yes, that dinner was a lot more hectic than you were expecting, but... "You said we were in this together," you murmur, tucking your knees up to your chest. "I'm staying."
Levi stares at you for a moment, like he's trying to make sure you're not lying, before he nods. He stands up, leaving you on the bed. "I'm going to shower," he tells you, moving towards his dresser. "You need anything?"
"No, thanks," you murmur, shifting yourself on the bed so that you can pull the covers back and get under the blankets. The blankets are so soft and warm that you audibly sigh, and Levi looks over to you. "Is it possible to be in love with a bed?" you ask.
His lips twitch. "I assume you found the heated blankets."
You hum in acknowledgement as you bury yourself into the pillows. "Heated blankets are the best thing that engineers have ever come up with," you murmur as you close your eyes.
You think you hear Levi chuckle as he heads away to the bathroom. You don't plan on falling asleep immediately, but without meaning to, you sink into the heated bed and pass out.
.
You're woken up abruptly by your phone ringing early on Christmas morning.
With a jolt, you scramble out of your bed, immediately hating yourself for it because the air is so cold compared to the bed, and you fumble for your phone as you cross the room and move to the bathroom, hoping to take your call far enough away from Levi that you don't wake him up.
As you get into the bathroom, closing the door behind you- heated floors, this is fucking amazing- you check your phone and groan. It's a video call from your mother, and as much as you'd like to ignore her now, you know it's not worth it. You glance at yourself in the mirror, cursing your ridiculous bedhead, and answer the phone.
"Hey, Mom," you greet, hoping the exhaustion isn't too evident in your voice. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas, Angel!" your mother coos enthusiastically. "Everyone, it's Angel!"
