4. it doesn't count if it's to convince the in-laws

Start from the beginning

I would love to get to know you. Normally, those words would set off massive alarm bells, but Levi's mother seems so nice that maybe it won't be that bad. "I'd love that," you say warmly. Levi stands and you rise with him; his grip on your hand is tight. "Thank you for the meal," you add, and the last thing you see is Kuchel's smile before Levi heads towards the door, pulling you with him.

You stumble after him, trying not to trip over your feet as Levi steers you away, out of the dining room and down the hall. Once you're out of the dining room, you exhale, letting all of the tension release from your shoulders. That was much more stressful than you expected it to be.

Levi still hasn't let you go, even when you're out of the dining room and have taken a few turns. He keeps guiding you through the mansion, and the more you walk, the more you realize that you're going to get lost in here.

Out of nowhere, he stops in the middle of the hallway. He turns to face you, still holding your hand. Levi's mouth opens, like he's thinking about saying something, and eventually, he gets out, "are you okay?"

Are you okay? Honestly, you have no clue. "Are you?" you ask.

You were just a witness to what looked like a massive argument that's happened many times before. Why is he asking if you're okay? "Hey," Levi murmurs, squeezing your palm. "I asked you first."

"I'm okay," you say, and you're not sure if it's entirely true. "But- Levi, are you? That seemed..."

He looks away, then back to you. "Let's just go to bed," he mutters. "We can talk then."

We can talk then, combined with the fact he's still holding your hand, seems like a hidden message. Cameras? Or maybe the staff? Is he just trying to communicate that there are eyes everywhere? Okay, you can play along with that. "Okay," you agree. "Okay, let's go to bed."

His shoulders drop slightly, and Levi nods. He's still holding your hand as he turns to start down the hallway, this time at a much more relaxed pace, and you fall into step next to him, eager to get to a bed and pass out.

He leads you around the mansion, passing through one room that's got a massive grand piano that you gawk at for at least a full thirty seconds before Levi rolls his eyes at you and continues down the hall. Finally, the two of you round the corner, and Levi says, "these are our guest rooms. Whichever one has your name on it."

Guest rooms... as in, plural? Christ. Levi lets go of your hand and lets you wander down the hall on your own, fingers trailing over the fancy designs along the wall. You wander by two rooms with blank slates until you see one with your name etched on it, and you gently push the door open.

Your jaw drops. "Levi, this room is the size of my entire apartment."

"Well, the house is big," Levi says.

Your bags and coat are sitting at the side of the room. It's plain but large, and like at the dinner table, you feel small, seeing all of this.

Something Hange said to you on the phone before you left is sticking with you- something about staying in Levi's room. You don't want to make him uncomfortable, but it's probably more convincing to stay in the same room. And it'd be a bit less intimidating than having to wake up in this room by yourself, in a massive house...

Levi clears his throat behind you, and you look to him. "Do you want to stay with me?" he asks.

Thank fuck, because you were too nervous to ask. "Up to you."

"I asked, didn't I?"

"You could've been doing it just be nice."

He rolls his eyes. "I'm not. It'd be easier for you to stay with me."
