He hums. His breath is hot on your neck. "Nervous?" Levi whispers.
"Can you tell?" you murmur. "That bad?"
"Just a bit." His hands don't move; they simply hold your hips in place, keeping you from falling. Keeping you where you are. "We don't have to do anything," he muses, and fuck is your heart going fast. "It's your family. Completely up to you how much you want to do."
The line between what you should be doing to keep up appearances and what you actually want is becoming veeeeery blurry. So, heart in your throat, you lean in and kiss him.
Levi's gentle, like he always is. Both of you have mastered the art of making simple kisses look (and feel) deep and passionate. But it's like you know you can get more, you can kiss him deeper, and you want to, fuck, do you want to-
But you don't, because you can't, because you're lucky enough to have this, to have Levi at your fingertips, and you don't want to ruin it, you can't ruin it, because fuck, you like this, you really do, and if you take this too far and then scare him off, you'd never forgive yourself, never-
Levi breaks away and his lips move to your cheek. "They're gone," he murmurs, and his hands release.
Chest tight, you swim backward, moving back to your spot in the hot tub. You turn your head; sure enough, the figures silhouetted behind the curtains are gone. You exhale, sinking back into your spot. Your lips are tingling.
These are always the worst moments. Right after the 'show'. It's become a bit less awkward every time, but now, it just feels... ugh.
"We're getting pretty good at that," you say after a moment.
Levi's eyes meet yours. "At what?"
You point between the two of you. "That."
"Kissing?"
"Mhm."
Levi shrugs, displacing the water around him. "You're not bad."
"I'm not bad?" you say teasingly, lips twitching. "Says you."
"You don't think I'm a good kisser?"
Dangerous, dangerous territory, but you just want to trek further into it. You shrug. "You're kind of mediocre," you murmur, trying not to let yourself smile too much. "Forgettable."
As soon as that word comes out of your mouth, you regret it, but the regret only lasts momentarily because Levi's eyebrows shoot to the top of his head and his eyes look lighter. "Forgettable," he says.
You pinch your lips together. "Mhm."
"Forgettable," Levi repeats, and he sounds genuinely offended. You can't help but grin sheepishly. "Take that back."
"...Do I have a reason to?"
And you regret it again, but once again, he doesn't let the regret last long. Levi's gaze is alight with something you don't recognize: something akin to excitement, maybe? Or are you getting your hopes up?
Levi leans back in his spot. "You say that like you're good at this."
"Am I not?"
"Mediocre."
"Not forgettable?"
The only thing you can hear over the pounding of your own heart is the hot tub's jets. You feel painfully warm, and it's not the hot water. "You're shitty," Levi says eventually.
But he never said forgettable, and that spurs you on. "Okay, then," you say boldly, crossing your arms. "Give me tips, then. If you're so good at it."
God damn Levi for turning you into this, for making you say these kinds of things, the things you want to take back the second you say them, and god damn him even more because he reacts even better than you ever hoped he would. He leans back, the faintest of smirks on his face. "Tips," Levi says, and the way he says it makes your toes curl.
