You and Levi take longer than everyone else, in part because the laces on your borrowed skates are atrocious and also because Levi doesn't seem to be in a rush. Maybe he wants a minute to talk before you two get on the ice?

If that's what he wants, he gets it. Ymir and Historia are the last pair to step off the dock and start to skate, leaving just you and Levi. "Excited?" you ask with a grin.

"Who in the world decided that humans should put blades on their feet?" Levi grumbles.

You roll your eyes, smiling to yourself. "Probably someone who had to cross a lot of ice and decided to make their life easier."

"Sounds like an engineer." He glares at you. "This is your fault."

"It's my fault because of my major."

"Absolutely." You glance around, making sure none of your family are around to overhear, and Levi sighs. "I wouldn't have said it if anyone was around," he murmurs. "I have more tact than that."

You frown. "I know. Just- just checking."

"Even your cousins don't know?"

"No. Not that I think they'd care," you add, "but the chances of them blabbing are high."

Levi hums. "Checks out."

He glances up, and you follow his gaze. Everyone else is skating, not too far away from the dock. Ymir's spinning Historia in circles, laughing. Sasha and Hitch are waving to you, beckoning for you to hurry up.

"They're looking over here," you murmur, eyes flickering back to Levi. "Can you at least pretend to smile?"

"No," Levi replies. "I don't smile."

"Missing a few facial muscles?"

"Yeah." He pauses, as if considering smiling, and then says, "I can kiss you instead."

Your heart thumps noisily against your ribcage. It takes everything you have in you to remain nonchalant as you shrug and say, "why not?"

Levi's gloved hand reaches for your face, and he pulls you in. It's gentle and brief, and you're almost disappointed when he pulls away. Why? Did you really think he'd kiss you like he did last night, with a bit more passion and fervor? Again, it was probably just for show, but are you really out of your mind for wanting something like that again?

He pulls back. "Time to test these death traps disguised as shoes."

You roll your eyes, taking his hand. "You'll be fine."

And, annoyingly enough, he's better than fine. Levi's good at skating. For someone who claims to not have tried this before, he adapts to it at a startling speed. You start by holding his hand and skating with him, trying to ease him into it, but before you know it, he's faster than you on his skates and making sharp turns look easy.

How is he literally good at everything? Except socializing, maybe. But he was great on the piano, he's a good dancer, he's a great driver, and he said he has a motorcycle, so he's probably great on that too. And now you've introduced him to skating, and he's good at that too. It's ridiculous.

"I thought you said he's never skated before!" Niccolo asks as he skates up to you.

You shake your head in disbelief. "He hasn't!"

"You're insane," the blond tells your fake boyfriend.

"So I've been hearing."

"He's lying to impress you!" Jean calls, skating a loose circle around you.

Levi scowls. "I don't need to lie to impress someone."

"Don't skate so close, Jean," you scold as he zips by you, close enough that if he reached out, he could shove you.
