Hange groans. "Oh, come on, babe! Okay, well, either way, by the time this is done, you'll have made a friend in Levi, at least. I'm so excited! Maybe you'll come out a bit more? Hang out with us all? No better way to make a friend than to fake date them, right? And remember, only fake dating, because you're not allowed to date him. I forbid it!"
Maybe they're right. Maybe you and Levi will come out of this as friends, and then maybe your small list of friends will double. You look up as you keep walking: Levi's leaning against the side of his car, cup in one hand that you're sure is filled with tea. "Maybe we will," you say to Hange. "Who knows."
"Well, I want updates!" Hange insists. As you get closer, Levi extends his arm, and you hand him your bag with a grateful smile. "I have my ways of getting information!"
"Well, Hange," you say, emphasizing their name so Levi knows who you're talking to. He scrunches up his nose and with his free hand, flips up his middle finger. "I have to go. Levi... he says hi."
Levi's eyebrows rise as he puts your bag in the trunk of his car. "Hi, Levi, I love you!" Hange chirps loudly. "Okay, Angel, bye, I'll text you every day!"
They hang up before you get the chance to say goodbye, so you tuck your phone into your pocket with a sigh. "Did they promise to text you every day?" Levi asks as he closes the trunk.
You roll your eyes. "Yep. You?"
"I've been dodging their calls all day."
Sounds about right. You smile to yourself as you slide into the passenger seat of Levi's car, sighing in relief at how warm the car is. "Thanks for putting my bag in the back," you say quickly before you forget.
He hums in acknowledgement, closing his door. "Too warm?"
"No, never." You wrap your arms around yourself, trying to warm up as fast as possible. "It's always too cold for me."
"And you said your family chooses a cabin up in the snowy north every Christmas?"
"Yep."
Levi shakes his head as he starts to drive. "No wonder you hate the holidays."
"If it's not summer, it's too cold for me," you agree with a small smile.
It's about two, three hours to Levi's house- that's what he told you, at least- so you get comfortable, curling up in your seat. Levi's got the radio on, playing quiet music except for when he tunes it to the traffic report to check on how the roads are moving. Levi's car is clean (almost scarily so, you're scared to touch anything) and warm as hell, so you've got no complaints about the trip.
The two of you don't talk much, which isn't all that worrisome, but you're definitely stewing in your nerves a bit. So many of Hange's final tips are bothering you: staying in his room, holding hands or linking arms, pet names. You haven't been a girlfriend in a while- you have no idea if you'll be able to do this naturally or not.
When you and Levi went out for dinner (before Hange got the chance to interrogate you), you'd discussed past relationships, but never in depth. You told him you had a boyfriend for a few months, and he told you "nothing of note". You'd been too nervous to ask him what he meant by that or to clarify, so you'd let it drop.
Now you're curious. Has he ever actually had a girlfriend before? You're stressing about being a good girlfriend- has he ever been a boyfriend?
"Rest stop?" Levi asks, pulling you out of your thoughts.
You nod, straightening yourself up. "Sure."
A few minutes later, he pulls into a gas station. You straighten yourself up as he pulls up next to a pump, peering out the window at the convenience store- you think there's a coffee shop inside. "You want tea?" Levi asks as he opens the door. "I'm going to fill up on gas."
