At first, it seems like he might finally get it right.
Noel joins him.
And they're both finally in sync.
But then he miscalculates a beat and the moment is ruined once more. Aljun lets out a frustrated noise and shakes his head.
Noel stretches his legs a little and walks around Aljun.
Maya softly smiles and leans her back against the top bleacher as he watches them.
JR gives her a long stare. "Urm...Maya."
She turns to face him. "Sa man?"
"Atong last Friday ba, bag-o nag-sem break..." He slowly slides a bit closer towards her. "Naunsa si Noel ato? Nangadto man mi ila Aljun ato. Unya murag nikalit ra siyag karatol."
"THAT FRIDAY BEFORE THE SEM BREAK..."
"WHAT HAPPENED TO NOEL THAT DAY? WE WENT TO ALJUN'S AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, HE JUST PANICKED."
Her smile disappears. She turns away from him. She takes a while to respond. "Kuan..." She casts her gaze on Noel. "Hapit mi nagbulag ato."
"UMM..."
"WE ALMOST BROKE UP."
JR thinks of what to say next. "Ahh," he says, a sheepish smile on his face. "Pero may gani okay na mo."
"OH..."
"BUT AT LEAST IT SEEMS LIKE YOU WERE ABLE TO FIX IT."
She nods. "Gani."
"YEAH."
Noel shakes his head out of frustration. He tells Aljun to try again.
Maya bounces her legs in a sudden panic. "Erm...JR," she says, her voice trembling.
"Mmm?"
She fiddles with her fingers for a bit, thinking of what to say. "Naa ko'y nabuhat ba." She closes her eyes, overcome by shame.
"I DID SOMETHING."
"Unsa diay?"
"WHAT? WHAT IS IT?"
She purses her lips and thinks about it for a second. She shakes her head. "Sorry. Ayaw na lang. Kalimti na lang to."
"SORRY. NEVERMIND. FORGET ABOUT IT."
JR gives her an inquiring look.
Her eyes dart from him towards Noel and back at him. "Pag pramis sa nga dili nimo ingnon si Noel."
"PROMISE FIRST THAT YOU WON'T TELL NOEL."
"Alangan."
"OF COURSE."
"Pag pramis."
"PROMISE."
He exhales. "Okay. Pramis, Maya. Dili nako ingnon si Noel."
"OKAY. I PROMISE, MAYA. I WON'T TELL NOEL ANYTHING."
She takes a deep breath. "Naa ko'y gi-kissan lain."
"I KISSED SOMEONE ELSE."
JR is a bit taken aback by it. "Kinsa?"
"WHO?"
"Si Gab."
"GAB."
"Gab? Katong bag-o nimo nga amiga? Katong sa murag Youtube channel?"
