my record is so clean

The last few minutes of his class wasn't clear in Ryuuen's mind. That was not something particularly strange — what did he care for some droning lectures? The reason was—as it often seemed to happen—was Ayanokouji. That wasn't strange either.

Him requesting a favour? That was more rare. For a moment he wondered what new bullshit Ayanokouji would be packing.

"Hey, Hiyori," he called out. "I've some other work, so postpone whatever book you were gonna talk about for later."

"I see," she answered, "that's alright." A moment later she added ,"And it's called Miracle Plays of Terror."

As Hiyori went her own way, Ryuuen shook his head. What am I gonna do by reading it? It wasn't like he could use the book to spear through Sakayangi's legs. Even being capable of that miracle, the book will be inferior to what he could use built with his own mind and blood.

What Ryuuen needed weren't little comical terrors. He had to make damn sure whatever he wielded was like a nuke. That's the kind of bullshit that his class needed to pack.

Walking through the hallways had never felt so inefficient before. The way would be packed with students, if Ryuuen was an ordinary student. Better not get in his way — not everyone thought that but, in the end, his reputation amounted to garnering the same result. That feeling was what kept his impatience at bay. He had read a sci-fi book recently, and the futuristic tech had taken home in some corner of his mind. It was no dragon ball instant transmission, but the novelty — something about fresh ideas clung to him. Months had passed, and he continued to read the books Hiyori suggested like some wandering fool.

Nothing striking flashed till now. Not that I expected anything, to begin with.

Expectedly, Ayanokouji was leaning against a wall. Unexpectedly, however, in his hands was —

"The fuck is that cat doing here?"

The expressionless weirdo looked at him, his presence almost at odds with the animal

The expressionless weirdo looked at him, his presence almost at odds with the animal. Almost, because a voice in his mind spoke how of course he alone made people envision nukes and then whipped out a wilted rose.

The urge to bash Ayanokouji's face was great, only slightly less than the awareness of its futility.

"Do I look like some fucking cutesy girl who will squeal because you came with a damn cat? Answer me, Ayanokouji."

"Exactly," he answered, "you are the one not one person will expect a connection with a cat."

"My record is so clean, as if. Your record is so much cleaner." He huffed, then asked, "What exactly is your request?"

"A trivial deal. Just hide this creature for a few days," said Ayanokouji. "There are somethings I need to deal with." Glancing idly out of the alleyway, with his hand, he scratched near the cat's near, earning a soft purr. "I do not deal in inefficiency. Isn't that what you have gleaned of me?"

"Damn sure I did, cause you are a condescending, overpowered bastard", he spat. "Yet you pull out some brand new surprises, brand new bullshit like this. From nowhere."

"You deal unaffected by them as ever though, Ryuuen," Ayanokouji remarked.

"Didn't know your eyesight was weakening," he retorted. "What, read far too many books like dear Horikita-senpai?"

"Not as much as you seem to nowadays." Ayanokouji raised his eyebrow. "It's good your are diversifying your knowledge base."

"No good for more than satisfying Hiyori. Whatever, hand over the damn cat," he grumbled. "I charge 10,000 by hour, by the way."

"You are also full of surprises, Ryuuen. Being actually used to caring for cats huh."

Ryuuen refrained from replying. He wouldn't give the bastard the dignity of the last shot. He snatched the tiny cat from his hands, then carefully hiding he reached his room unseen by anyone.

Settling the cat on the wooden floor, he pulled out his phone from his pant's pocket. Unlocking it, he scrolled till reaching Ayanokouji's contact number.

Extra charge for carrying it with me to my room - what is a book with rare ideas Hiyori has never read?
