𖥔♧˖ ࣪ᯤ BACKGROUND⇣ I BET A LOT OF YOU ARE WONDERING HOW TOMMY, a jyp entertainment artist, debuted in everglow, a girl group under yuehua entertainment. so in this small chapter, i will be explaining how that came to be.
let's go back to the summer of 2018. tommy is back home in georgia and streaming on twitch to keep herself busy while on hiatus. all the way in south korea, mnet has just started the third season of the "produce" series; produce 48.
tommy livestreams herself watching the series all summer. she never said who she voted for or what trainees or performances were her favorite in case she accidentally influenced the votes, but it was obvious one of her favorite trainees ❪ besides her friends on the show ❫ was one of the trainees representing yuehua entertainment; wang yiren.
a casting director from yuehua comes across a clip of tommy not-so-secretly fangirling over yiren and sees a possible member for their upcoming girl group. actually, she is a member for their upcoming girl group if she accepts their offer.
under the impression that tommy had parted ways with jyp entertainment, they get her phone number and contact her, asking if she'd like to sign to their company and be part of their upcoming girl group.
a flattered ❪ annoyed ❫ tommy informs them that she and the company were still discussing what to do with her contract, but to contact someone at jype and see what they think. she expected that to be the first and last call she'd ever get about joining a girl group, but to her luck, more calls and e-mails from both companies came in.
come to find out, yuehua did as she recommended and contacted a manager from jyp entertainment.
tommy was being sarcastic when she told the casting director to contact the company. of course there had been partnerships between yuehua entertainment and other companies before but she didn't think jype would join the list.
during this time, jyp entertainment was preparing to officially debut their chinese boy group ❪ boy story ❫ to receive more exposure in china. they saw an opportunity to fasten the process through tommy's involvement with yuehua and made plans for a partnership. not only would it benefit jype to be involved with a chinese company, but yuehua would benefit from having a huge name like tommy's ❪ albeit for mostly the wrong reasons ❫ related to them.
their partnership would work on the agreement that tommy would debut in yuehua's girl group as long as her activities and promotions were mostly managed by jyp entertainment.
but ultimately, the decision was up to the troubled parisian. they feared that if they pressured her in the slightest bit she would turn down both companies. they were correct because that was her plan upon hearing about the partnership being done through her. it angered her. she was put on hiatus to prepare everyone for her departure only to be brought back once it benefitted them. a company known for its "good" image was willing to make a partnership at tommy's expense.
so she took it.
tommy told jyp entertainment that she would return under the condition that they give her two months to work things out with the members of stray kids. if they couldn't reconcile, then her contract would be terminated and she would ultimately transfer to yuehua. she then told yuehua to give her those same months to settle down in seoul before taking her in to see if she would make a good member for their girl group.
tommy was later introduced to the lineup yuehua had for the girl group they planned to name everglow. she began training with them and, fortunately, got along well the other five girls. she also became best friends with yiren, the girl she cheered for throughout the duration of produce 48 and part of the reason why she even agreed to the partnership.
two months later and tommy was constantly traveling back and forth between both companies. only her visits to yuehua were caught by passerby's and her return to jyp entertainment was kept hidden. she returned to the kpop scene after being introduced as the last member of everglow ❪ yuehua's first south korean girl group ❫ to gain traction for their debut and promotions. soon after, she finally debuted with stray kids for their comeback "miroh" and participated in promotions for both groups.
so basically, tommy being in both stray kids and everglow all started with tommy being an yiren stan.
