It was hard to get a good look at the newcomers due to the crowd but as I got closer, I noticed how tall and, let's face it, hot the family was, especially the parents. Except for the little girl of course, she was adorable.
They all had the same thin arms and tail as me. It was weird seeing these features on someone else, yet still comforting, knowing I wasn't alone.
One person in particular stuck out to me though. He was the tallest of the of the children, seemingly the oldest. I really liked his neckpiece and his waistband, they suited him.
He resembled his mother, which I thought was cute.
Subconsciously, I started walking closer to them, and Tsireya followed me. We both stopped just outside the crowd, still not able to get a clear view. I was peeping over the people I could and in between the bodies of those that I couldn't.
Then I saw Aonung and Roxto approach the family.
Please for the love of Eywa, don't let them screw this shit up, I pleaded in my head.
The two brothers of the family both greeted Aonung and Roxto by signing "I see you" to them. Aonung and Roxto both snickered and started mocking their appearances.
This enraged me. I looked at Tsireya annoyingly. She returned the look and added an eye roll before making her way through the crowd, trying to get to the the pair of troublemakers. As I followed Tsireya, I noticed that one of the new arrivals was staring at her.
Can't blame him, she is hot, I thought to myself.
"Stop it," whispered Tsireya harshly, pulling Aonung away from the newcomers. I grabbed Roxto by the tail and pulled him aside as well. I looked at him disapprovingly and he rolled his eyes.
I looked back at the newcomers and locked eyes with the taller brother. I showed my respects by signing "I see you" and he did the same in return, his face relaxing, showing a sign of relief. He was probably glad to see that at least some were accepting.
Wonder what they're here for? I thought to myself. These people wouldn't just fly all this way for a visit, something's up. Could it be trouble with the sky people? I really hope it has nothing to do with my father.
If I was being honest with myself, I don't think I'll ever get the answers to why my father abandoned me and to be frank, I don't even think I wanted them.
"Hey," said the smaller brother, looking only at Tsireya. She smiled blushingly, averting her gaze from his yellow eyes. Just before I was able to tease her, Tonowari flew in.
The forest family bowed and showed their respects. The father introduced his family to our leader.
"I'm Jake Sully, this is my wife Neytiri and these are our kids," he explained hurriedly, getting stressed by the whispers coming from the crowd surrounding them.
"Why have you come here," bellowed a strong woman's voice. It was Ronal, Tonowari's wife, and a tough woman to please. She's a kind person once you've won her over, strict, but kind.
"I have come here to seek Uturu for me and my family," exclaimed Jake.
"A sanctuary? For you? Your arms are too scrawny and your tails are too thin; you would do us no good at sea," judged Ronal while poking and prodding the children, seeing if they were fit enough to help provide for the clan.
She paused when she got to the supposedly older sister's hands. I couldn't really see them well but that didn't matter because Ronal made sure the entire clan could know what she was thinking.
"These people aren't even real Na'vi, they've got demon blood!" she announced, raising the younger brother's hand, showing us his five fingers. The crowd starts jeering.
What a bunch of skxawngs, I thought to myself. What does it matter if they don't look like us? I don't look like them but here I am.
I'm the best hunter of the clan for Eywa's sake and I'm not even the same species of Na'vi as them, much less a Metkayinan.
"Look," said Jake, showing us his five fingers, "I've got demon blood as well but that doesn't mean I'm one of them."
Ronal didn't look impressed.
"Listen, I was born with the sky people but now I am Na'vi. We can adapt just like how I adapted into the Omaticaya clan," explained Jake. "We are willing to put in the work and we promise to make this worth your while."
There was an uneasy silence.
"My husband was Toruk Makto," flaunted Neytiri. "He led my people to victory against the sky people!"
"This is what you call victory? Hiding among strangers? It seems that Eywa has turned her back on you," stated Ronal.
Damn that was harsh, I thought.
Neytiri hissed. As if expecting this, Ronal hissed back. Jake broke them up and apologised for his wife's behaviour on her behalf.
Honestly, this was all very painful to watch. We'd all heard the stories of the amazing Toruk Makto and if even a quarter of those were true, they truly did deserve to stay here among our people.
"We Metkayina have been at peace for centuries!" bellowed Tonowari to catch the crowd's attention that had started to rile up, then he turned to Jake, "We cannot let you bring your war to us."
"Trust me, I'm done with war," said Jake while picking up the youngest of the bunch, "I just want to keep my family safe," he assured.
The little girl hugged her father tightly.
"It's okay Tuk," he whispers, patting her back
gently.
"We'll be fine."
Tonowari turned to Ronal and gave her a pitiful look. She looked at him sternly but then nodded. Tonowari turned towards the crowd.
"Toruk Makto and his family shall stay with us. From now on they are a part of our tribe. They'll need to learn our ways, to save themselves the embarrassment of being useless. My son Aonung and my daughters Tsireya and Taka'ri will help you learn our customs and settle in," commanded Tonowari with his loud voice.
"What! Father, I-" protested Aonung.
"It is decided," declared the chief.
Tsireya smiled.
I can't believe he called me his daughter, I thought happily. I guess he noticed how I always viewed him as a father.
"Come! Let us show you around the village," beamed Tsireya, walking towards the huts through a path that the crowd had cleared up for us.
"Welcome to the Metkayina clan," I grinned at the astonished family.
