Parker

"Hey, babe."

"Hey Ty," I say into the phone while I'm finishing getting ready.

"I'm leaving my house now to come pick you up, alright," he says with a smile on his face.

"You know, you could just call me when you get here. You live like two blocks away." I never understand his need to call me before he leaves when he'll be at my house in less than 5 minutes.

"Maybe I just like hearing your voice."

"Be careful, you'll hear it too much and get tired of me," I say as I make the final touches on my makeup and start heading downstairs to put my shoes on.

"I could never. Anyways bye P. Be there in two, love you."

"How could you not? I'm way too awesome not to love," I hear him laugh before the line is cut off.

Before I'm about to slip on my shoes, I hear little footsteps running down the stairs. "Wait, Parker."

"What's up, Em?" He's not usually up this early, his school doesn't start till much later. He also sounded a little distressed.

"I'm nervous for my first day of second grade. Dad said the 5th graders might beat me up," his little voice sounded terrified and tears started to form in his big blue eyes.

"Don't listen to Dad. He's just trying to make you aware that's all."

Why would you ever want to scare a child like that? I don't think I'll ever be able to understand my dad. He just says things without even thinking about what kind of effect those words have on people.

"But what if they do try to hurt me? What do I do then?" He's about to cry and it's killing me inside.

I crouch down and hold his little hands, remembering all the times I've helped him calm down every time he starts feeling like this.

"Then you tell me and Tyler, alright? And we'll handle them."

"But Daddy said not to be a tattle-tale. That'll make me get beaten up more. Daddy says I'm weak and small and that I'm an easy target." His bottom lip starts to quiver.

"Well forget what Dad says. If someone is hurting you, you have the right to tell someone. You're only a tattle-tale when you tell on someone for no reason. Plus you're pretty tough. You beat Ty in a fight once, remember." I try my best not to show the anger I have for my father right now, Emmett doesn't need to see me angry too.

Just then the door opens and Tyler walks through. When he sees us his face immediately shows concern. He strides over to us and drops to the floor beside me.

"What's wrong little buddy? Are you ok?" His concern for my little brother makes my heart warm.

"He's just a little nervous for his big day that's all."

I feel bad I'm not telling my best friend the entire truth, but I've kept my home life separate from my school life long enough and I intend to keep it that way. There's only one person who's ever seen bits and pieces and that's one too many in my opinion. Before I start going down memory lane, Ty's words pull me out of my spiraling thoughts.

"Well, second grade is a pretty big deal. How about me and your sister pick you up after school today and we could grab some ice cream? Would that cheer you up?"

Emmett drys his eyes and smiles, "It depends on what place we go to."

"Obviously you're favorite. But since you are so big now maybe you should pay for us all. It only makes sense," Tyler says in a teasing voice.

"Hey! I don't even have a job. I can't pay for all of us. You're too expensive. Especially since Parker gets more than all of us combined." Emmett tries to act mad but his smile keeps poking through.

"Hey! I get the perfect amount of ice cream," I also try to seem mad but their silly banter is too adorable to be mad at. Plus there's not such thing as too much ice cream.

"Whatever you say babe. I guess I'll pay. But next ones on you little man." He points at my little brother as he gets up.

"Okay, now go take that excitement upstairs and get ready for school. The bus leaves at 7:30. Just remember what we said, okay. Love you, buddy." I hug him and kiss his blond head before putting my shoes on.

"Love you too, sissy," he yells as he's running up the stairs.

I look up at my awesome best friend and smile, "How did I get so lucky to have you?"

He kisses my forehead quickly, "I'd say I'm the lucky one, but whatever. Let's get this show on the road, baby. It's our senior year."

We both do some celebratory whoops before we get in the car and head to our last first day at Cedar High.

Oh yeah baby! Second chapter down. I'm so excited to bring more to you guys. Writing has been way more fun than I would have thought. Sorry this was so short, I figured this was a good intro to the daily life of Parker Evans.

Again let me know if this is crap. A vote or comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Love,
Madi❤️
