Afterword

I just wanted to tell a little something once I'd reach the end of this fanfiction. I can't believe I started to write it two years and a half ago, in April 2020! (One thing that came out as positive for me during covid, lol.)

First, I will try to answer a few questions that you may have :

Why a white-lipped pit viper and not another snake?

It is a direct reference to a Chinese BL novel : Counter Attack (Falling in Love with a Rival) from Chai Jidan. I watched the series and read the story. In the text (but not on screen), one of the main characters has many snakes and is fairly dangerous. His favourite snake is a white-lipped pit viper and it's personality is fun, it can get pretty jealous. I thought it would match Draco's personality.

Also, the viper represents the house of Slytherin, so it's a win-win situation!

Why Goyle and Dennis as the villains?

I really, really hesitated about the culprits. At first, I wanted to pick Neville and Ron. Neville because he's always so nice, I wished to turn him into a bad guy to surprise people. And Ron, because I thought it could be a great plot twist, the best friend turning out to be a villain.

Apparently, my hesitation was perceivable in the text, because some of you commented about it. There were a few comments about whether Neville, Ron, Ginny (and even McGonagall!) turned Malfoy into a snake. But I preferred Goyle and Dennis over them because I wished to explore what these two characters had become after the war. Goyle turning his back to Draco, grieving Crabb, and Dennis revealing himself as a mastermind... Were you surprised by the final revelation? This was an unusual alliance, but I hope you were pleased with the 'Dennis confession' chapters, I tried to really work on these and make them full of suspense.

Who's top? Who's bottom?

Another reference to Counter Attack! In the novel, the character of Wu Suo Wei wants to top, but doesn't stand a chance with Chi Cheng.

However, in this fanfiction, Harry and Draco take turn by playing rock, paper, scissors. They always need to compete for everything, so I thought that would be a playful, childish way to make them chose who'd be top.

Also, I often hear that in BL and in yaoi most specifically, there are definite roles on who's the bottom or on who's the top... but that it doesn't really match with the reality, for real gay couples... This is why I made them switch, to show that when you love someone, the 'roles' are not that important.

Drarry : A Snake Life just reached 200,000 views! I'm so happy and excited! Thank you so much to all of you for reading my fanfic, voting and commenting so much!

Just to let you guys know >>> when I finished writing the fanfiction, I discussed with my main proofreader (aka mom, lol) and she complained that the story ended too abruptly. We then made a bet: if I reached 200K views, I'd have to write a bonus chapter.

Well, the goal is reached, so I can officially tell you that there will be one (or even maybe two) bonus chapter(s) to this story. Probably this year ;)
