Kyoya had no idea how he ended up here. He wasn't one to extend a hand to help unless he knew it would benefit him or the person really needed it. Tamaki, on the other hand, would go out of his way for anyone to make sure they feel the happiness he believes they deserve. It wasn't that Kyoya didn't believe people deserved to be happy, he just believed that it wasn't his job to help them achieve it. But still, here he was, staring at a blank piece of paper, trying to figure out how to write a love letter to his best friend.
Getting roped into this was almost too easy, in fact, it was so easy it was laughable. It happened two days ago and it was all Kyoya had thought about. The girl, Aiko, sat beside him in class. Aiko remained under the radar, only belonging to a wealthy family but lacking higher social status meant Kyoya didn't need to acknowledge her. That was his mistake. She was smart, waited until Tamaki left before making her move, and cornering Kyoya with bright eyes and a big smile. (If he walked away he would have looked rude.) She asked Kyoya to write a love letter for her, one she would give to Tamaki because he knew Tamaki better than she did.
"Kyoya-san, do you have a moment?" She asked, standing beside his desk. She was blocking him, if he went the other way people would notice he was running, but if he pushed past her people would see him put his hands on her. Neither would be good for him or the Ootori name. "I wanted to ask you something if you don't mind."
Kyoya forced a smile, focusing on making his voice sound as soft and sweet as hers. "Of course, Aiko, what can I do for you?" It was always something. He knew the power his family had was good and the standing he had at the school was immaculate, but he still hated how many people flocked to him due to his power. He saw through them, all of them. Tamaki was the only one who didn't care about his name, even the other members of the club made comments about who he was. Still, he carried himself with pride. He was an Ootori.
"You're friends with Tamaki, right?" Her cheeks were flushed and he knew exactly where this was going. She glanced around the room, exhaling when she remembered Tamaki had left moments prior.
"Yes, we spend a lot of time together and run the Host Club." He smiled up at her. It wasn't often that girls came to him in hopes of having a relationship with Tamaki, but it did happen. Kyoya didn't care, he was able to convince most girls to spend time with Tamaki in the club where they could have his undivided attention, but Aiko had frequented the club and something told Kyoya she didn't care for it. "Do you need his phone number for a class project?" He wanted to move this along, he had to meet with Tamaki about their theme in the club for next week.
"No, I actually wanted to ask you for a favor," The confidence in her voice wavered and she lowered her eyes, twisting the ring on her finger. "I have feelings for Tamaki but I don't know how to word them... I thought that since you two were so close you could write a love letter for me, confessing my feelings, and give it to him." Her face was somehow redder than before.
Kyoya felt bad for her. Tamaki wasn't one to date but rather flirt until he found the person he was convinced was the love of his life. He didn't believe she stood a chance, but he wasn't going to tell her no. Even if writing a love letter to his best friend was weird. "Are you sure you would want me to write it? I don't know how you feel about him." He had an idea, but he refused to entertain it. Writing this letter would force him to admit it to himself.
"I don't know how to say it, I'm so bad with words, even at the Host Club I struggle to speak to him." She put her hand on Kyoya's shoulder and squeezed. "But you know him, what he likes and stuff, which means you know what kind of love letter would make him want to date me!"
This was useless. He was trapped. Writing the letter would force him to admit the feelings, the thoughts, that he had were far from platonic, but telling this girl "no" would humiliate her and make him look bad. There was no winning for Kyoya. "Okay, I'll write it and give it to him myself. It should be done by Friday." He gave her another smile and gathered his belongings, standing up and walking away.
