The spear was a foreign weapon in his pale, sweaty hand. But seeing as his former ally was slashing at him with her sword, Eli figured he might as well attempt to survive using it.

He jabbed at Mariah clumsily and she laughed melodically. "Nice try," she taunted, feinting a stab and slashing his arm. The sight of his own blood made him feel dizzy.

The next few things happened in slow motion.

Eli's retort to her teasing was a swift stab at her stomach. Instinctively, instead of blocking it she jabbed as well. In a split second, blood was flowing out of both.

Both weapons clattered to the ground. They slumped onto the dirt weakly. Whoever died first... There was an equal chance for both.

Meanwhile, in District Six, a girl called Aubrey was crossing her fingers, tears in her eyes. "Survive Eli, survive, please..."

When she glanced away for two seconds, she heard a very loud cannon fire. Her blue eyes shot attentively back to the screen.

Eli or Mariah? She thought, but knew the answer just by simply looking at the bodies.

Her heart sunk.
