Chapter 28: Hide From The World

Start from the beginning

"Uh... that's one way of putting it," you muttered.

Ray raised his eyebrows, "Oh."

You choked, "Oh for fuck's sake, not like that! We did not have sex," you explained in a flustered manner. "He was just... very affectionate."

"He tends to be," the guitarist smiled. "Take care of him, won't you?"

A little laugh escaped you, "I will definitely do whatever I can to make sure he's happy."

"That has to include you accepting that he likes you, y'know that, right?" Ray tilted his head.

You stared at him, in silent astonishment. "How the hell did you figure out I am having trouble with that?" you questioned in a disbelieving sputter.

Ray shrugged, and rubbed the back of his neck, "I mean, it's not exactly a secret that you don't think much of yourself. I'd imagine... you're thinking that you don't deserve him."

"And people call me the perceptive one," you mumbled.

He shook his head, "You are — it's just easy to pick up on. You pick up on shit that I would've never thought of, so you still hold that title."

"I need to get better at disguising my awful self esteem, it seems," you joked.

"Mmm," a dazed hum interrupted your conversation, and you both looked at Gerard, who seemed to be waking up, "what's going on?"

"Ray brought you some coffee," you answered, holding the cup out for him.

He stretched, relieving the tension from your legs, and allowing you to move yourself into a more comfortable pose; then he took the drink from you, and grinned sleepily at his bandmate, "Thank you."

Ray pointed behind him, "I also came to tell you that Brian said that we can leave earlier and go back to the hotel if we want to."

Gerard paused, before he sunk back onto you. "No, I'm good," he muttered. "I'll stick around."

"You sure? You were literally asleep thirty seconds ago," you gave him a very delicate nudge.

"I'm good," he stubbornly denied.

"Are you sure?" Ray offered, "Last chance."

Gerard nodded, "I wanna stay and watch—" here, his free hand clumsily found your arm to hold onto, "—their show."

You felt your face warm, whereas Ray simply chuckled, and left with a wave, "Then you go back with them, okay?"

"Uh huh," Gerard replied, before the guitarist disappeared from sight. He propped his chin up on your shoulder, and wrapped one arm around your torso, like you were a stuffed animal, "You okay?" he asked, becoming a little more awake.

"Yeah," you answered, rubbing your temple, with a dry smile. "Yeah, I think I'm good."

He took a little sip of his coffee, and you pulled at the collar of your jacket, so you'd stopped sweating to death. "We need to go out," he commented at last, after a moment's silence.

"Technically, we are outside," you retorted with a little snort, shutting your eyes.

"I mean alone, together," you could hear the pout in his voice, so you looked at him again in surrender. "I wanna take you out."

"With a sniper rifle?" you asked, with every intent of being annoying.

Gerard groaned, in a playful but exasperated manner, "You know what I mean. I mean on a date."

Hearing it out loud made you still, and you touched the side of your head nervously. "When?" you finally questioned.

"Tomorrow, we've got a break day before we head to Philadelphia," he took another slurp of his drink. "We can go get some lunch somewhere nice."

"Sounds... nice," you admitted. "I'd like that."

"I'd like that too," Gerard confessed, putting his sunglasses on top of his head, and turning to look at you.

You stared at him for a second, taking in his beautiful appearance for the millionth time, before leaning back in your chair, and gazing off into the distance. At least there was now something to look forward to tomorrow, if of course it didn't turn into a big deal, and then everyone found out what was going on between you two.

You could still feel him peering at you, but before you could ask what was wrong, he leaned forward, and gave you a small kiss on the cheek — "You're cute," he mumbled, then fell back into your neck, his curls tickling your skin.

"Go back to sleep," you muttered in response, which caused him to giggle.

You couldn't help but wince as you contemplated might happen next. Now that you were in a relationship, you were wondering how far it would go — in the original timeline, Lindsey and Gerard got married at the end of ProRev, which was coming up in about a week's time. Would things be different? You hoped so, you didn't think jumping right into marriage right now was a good idea.

That being said, you wanted to spend more time with Gerard, so... how were you going to see each other after the tour ended? You lived in fucking Watertown, there was no way in hell he'd ever want to live with you in that shithole.

Before you could think on the matter anymore, Gerard let out a small mumble, and took another sip of his coffee, reminding you of his presence. Well, you were here, he was here — there wasn't much else you could ask for, to be honest.

You decided to enjoy the moment while it lasted, and set aside your worries for the future for another time. Right now, you just wanted to be with him.
