Izuku stepped off the sleek black train, steam curling around his polished shoes. Adjusting his cap, he breathed in the warm summer air — sunlight spilling over the platform, gilding his tanned skin and freckles.
A chauffeur waited nearby, dressed in crisp black, standing beside a dark emerald sedan embossed with the Midoriya family crest. Izuku handed off his bag and slid into the car, the interior humming with quiet luxury. The leather seats and soft hum of the engine grounded him, but his chest felt tight.
Five years. Five long years.
The car slowed before U.A.’s gleaming gates — the place that had once been everything to him. Students walked the paths, laughter echoing across the courtyard, but to Izuku it all felt distant. He could still recall the letters he’d received: sweet, affectionate ones from Uraraka… and a few from mutual friends that left a cold ache behind.
She’s been different, Izuku. You sure everything’s okay between you two?
He’d brushed them off, but the doubts had never really faded.
As he walked through campus, the memories came rushing back — the smell of fresh grass after training, the faint hum of chatter. Then he saw her.
Uraraka.
Her brown hair glimmered in the sun, shoulder-length, just as he remembered. For a brief moment, hope flickered in his chest — until a man stepped into view.
Izuku’s steps slowed.
The stranger’s arm slid around her waist, and he kissed her deeply. Uraraka responded without hesitation, laughter spilling between their lips. That laugh — his laugh.
The world went quiet.
Izuku felt his heart twist, something inside him breaking in a way that didn’t make a sound. He walked forward, his body moving as if on instinct. Uraraka turned, color draining from her face when she saw him standing there.
“I want everything I gave you,” Izuku said quietly, voice steady but empty. “Or I’ll file a report — fraud, emotional manipulation, distress. Take your pick.”
Her mouth opened, but no words came. She looked down, shame clouding her features. “Got it,” she whispered.
He turned and walked away, his expression unreadable as the chauffeur opened the car door for him again. “Principal’s office,” was all he said.
---
“Ah! Midoriya!” Nezu’s voice rang out brightly when Izuku entered. “Right on time! Come in, come in.” The principal gestured toward an empty seat beside a young woman. “This is your new roommate, Kayla Morris — from the United States. California, to be exact. Since both of your dorm wings are full, you’ll be staying in the coed dorms together.”
Nezu’s smile was polite — and final.
Izuku glanced at the girl beside him. Kayla’s expression was unreadable, though her brown eyes carried a spark of amusement. “You can try to argue,” she murmured, her tone smooth, casual — the kind of easy confidence that came from someone used to warm weather and long days. “But I don’t think he’ll change his mind.”
Izuku smirked faintly. “Trust me, I know better than to try.”
“Dorm Hall E, room 417,” Nezu announced with a satisfied nod.
They left the office together, their footsteps echoing down the hall. Students stared — at Izuku’s quiet composure, the elegant cut of his clothes, and Kayla’s calm, grounded beauty. She wore a simple black crop top, low-rise jeans, and slides — nothing flashy, but she carried herself with effortless ease.
