The Unorthodox Life of Aaliyah Kaye Marx (9)

Start from the beginning

The other twin stuck his head out and just before the egg hit him - turned to the side, watching it fly into his room. Seconds later he turned around.

"ALI - YOU HIT MY FUCKING GUITAR. I NEED THAT FOR LATER!" He screamed down at me, his face also red. I shrugged. The song changed to 'Smack That' and I grinned.

"I LOVE this song!" I shouted, picking up another egg and firing it at the window on the left. Twin number one slammed it shut and it splattered against it. I laughed and stood up.

"SMACK THAT - ALL ON THE FLO-OR, SMACK THAT GIVE ME SOME MO-RE, SMACK THAT 'TIL YOU GET SO-RE, SMACK THAT, OHHH OH OH OH!" I sang loudly, picking up another egg, I swayed to the music and threw the egg towards the remaining open window. He slammed it shut just in time and I dusted off my hands picking up the remaining unused carton and the single egg that was left from the first carton.

The window flew open once more and twin number two flipped me off - I hurled the egg towards him and he slammed the window shut once more. I laughed, turning off the music and hauling my stereo and speakers inside. Mission complete.

What a great start to the day. I went upstairs to get dressed for school. I didn't want to be here when Mom arrived home. I threw my hair into a high pony ... You could definitely see my black roots now. To be honest I was getting kind of sick of the multicoloured hair ... It was cool, but the novelty had worn off. It was way too hard to maintain and me being lazy as sin - wasn't bothered to keep dyeing it.

I sighed and angrily tugged at the curly layers that would never stay in my ponytail, they hung around my face annoying me. Looking outside, I noticed the sun was coming up - painting the sky a dazzling pink. It would be warm today.

I always knew what the day would be like before it started. Always - that's another weird thing about me that I've forgotten to mention. I pulled on a pair of black denim shorts, the frayed edges, tickled my thighs.

I shrugged a tight purple tank over that and a light black cardigan, from which I took the ends and tied them together, just under my breast. I swapped all my navy piercings for my neon pink, green and blue ones and then flicked on a little mascara before heading downstairs. It was only about six o clock and I still had a lot of time to kill before going to school.

I made the guys breakfast and decided to head over to the police station. Better sooner than later.

I drove to the police station, in silence for once. No music blared through my speakers. I was thinking about how I could do this. How I would say this.

I pulled up in front of the station and took a deep breath. My stomach turned uneasily.

I opened the door and walked in.

Officer Gilroy looked up when I walked in.

"Here to turn yourself in for something?" He said dryly. I rolled my eyes.

"No, actually, I'm here to form a complaint. And accuse someone."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "Accuse who for what?"

"Mr. Berry - for abuse towards his children. Jessica is too scared to come in herself, she fears for her and her brothers life - I want a court order for them to be removed from the care of their father." I stated clearly, Gilroy's eyebrow's had risen so high they had disappeared under the untidy fringe that flopped over onto his forehead.

"That's preposterous Ms. Marx - Mr. Berry is a well-mannered, well-liked citizen. Sure he's had a drinking problem since his wife died - but there have been no complaints about him otherwise. He was the heart and soul of this police force when he worked here - he quit not long after his wife passed." Gilroy said sharply, glaring at me as if I was lying.
