Happy Birthday To Me

Nixie's POV

August 23rd, 1975

Today is my 15th birthday and my 5th year of Hogwarts is due to begin in September.

A few things to know about me, my name is Nixie, no one knows my last name, even me or Professor Dumbledore, I was born August 23rd, 1960 and five years ago I was taken out of a muggle orphanage, told I was a witch and placed in Slytherin house. The orphanage that I grew up in was in Spinners End, where my best friend Severus lived.

I've been friends with him since we were little and then he met Lily. We're all great friends but I can tell that Severus has feelings for Lily. What neither of them know, at least I hope they don't, is that I have feelings for Severus. I have for years now. He may seem weird to most people but to me he is caring and kind and always willing to help me and Lily with anything.

Today the three of us are going to get ice cream from Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour in Diagon Alley. In fact, I'm on my way to Lily's house right now, her mom is driving us in her car.

As I walk up the Evans driveway, I hear Lily's sister, Petunia arguing with her mom.

"Why does Lily get to go and not me?! I'm older so I should be allowed to go as well!" That was when Lily stepped in.

"Tuney, it's Nixie's birthday, we're just celebrating with ice cream and coming right back home." She explained calmly. Lily was always trying to solve the problems that Petunia caused.

Petunia opened her mouth to retaliate again and that's when I decided to let my presence be known.

"Hey Lil, hey Petunia, Mrs Evans, how are you?"

"Oh Nix, I didn't see you there, happy birthday. Are we almost ready to go?" Lily said, already forgetting about the argument with Petunia.

"Thanks Lil and yes I'm ready, I haven't seen Sev yet though, I'm worried he got held up by his dad again." I said sadly. Lily and I were the only ones who knew about Severus getting beat at home. His father didn't like wizards or witches, or 'freaks' as he called us.

"Well we can go and drive by his route, pick him up if we see him and if not, stop by his house." Lily looked towards her mother seeing if that was okay.

"Alright girls, that's fine, hop in and we'll go find Severus and get on with our day."

A few minutes later, we were back in Spinners End with no sign of Severus.

"I'll run in Lil, stay here." I got up and out fo the car and ran up to the door.

I knocked and waited until Eileen opened the door. She had new bruises on her face and a black eye.

"Hi Eileen, is Sev here, we're supposed to get ice cream at Florean's for my birthday." I tried peering over her shoulder.

"Oh yes, Nixie, he'll be out in a second, his father is.. well you know.. I'll try to get him for you dear." She then disappeared behind the oak wood door.

A few moments later I heard a loud crash and then suddenly the door flew open with Severus running out right into me.

"Oh my, so sorry Nixie. He's bad right now. Had too much to drink this morning." He said helping me up. "Happy birthday by the way." And he hugged me right making my stomach twist with delight. I felt my face heat up a bit as I said thank you.

Once we were in the car, I started looking at Sev's face, trying to see everything that happened to it this time. He had a split lip and quite a few bruises this time and he was sort of nursing his left arm.
