Noah
I hate first Friday. The surrounding cities tend to celebrate it with a large festival to celebrate their hard work in the society, it's the only fun the citizens have throughout the year. My comrades and I watch from afar, seeing families be filled with joy as they spend time together.

"Same boring thing every year, I don't know how they are having a good time when it's a hell hole in there." John says as he spits on the grass.

I lean against a tree, looking far into the city that is consumed with loud music. "Not sure, just let them have their fun John. It's not every day where they feel relaxed."

John chuckles, leaning against the same tree with his arms crossed "aren't you supposed to hate those dweebs?"

"You mean the dweebs that are being taken advantage of by the governor?"

"Yup, those dweebs."

Now it was my turn to chuckle, "of course I hate them, every single fucking one of them." I look down at the grass and break a twig with my shoe "but everyone needs to be relaxed every now and then."

There was a long silence, the sounds of twigs breaking under someone's feet become more audible.

"Sir, we scouted the area. By tomorrow we should be able to successfully go into the city without being seen."

I look back at one of my comrades that has a rifle in his bloody hands. He was filled with mud over his face, twigs in his hair and scratches over his arms. However, he wasn't the only one that was dirty. We all were, as if we had just finished fighting in a mud pile that was filled with thorns.

I nod towards him, "thank you Sam. You and the other guys get some rest. We leave the first thing in the morning."

Sam nods then walks away from John and I to meet up with the other guys.

"I feel for you kiddo." John mutters, now sitting on the grass with his back against the tree.

"What do you mean?" I reply, sitting beside him as we both stare off to the large walls that surround the city.

"Ever since Mike died, you've had to take the initiative of keeping us safe and making sure we go back home to our families. Your barely twenty-three yet you have responsibilities of a thirty-year-old man."

Thoughts of Mike fill my head, how he found me and put me under his wing, taught me what I needed to learn to survive out here. I finally responded, "I don't mind it. It's something my parents would've wanted."

"Yeah I know kiddo. Just know we have your back, don't give yourself too much pressure." John grunts, getting up with his bow over his shoulder, "plus, people need relaxation every now and then."

I smile at the same remark he said that I had said earlier. "Your right, now get some sleep. We have a big day ahead of us."

He nods, "you get some sleep too, you're the one that needs it most outta all of us."

"Of course. Don't make too much noise or you'll wake them."

"Yes sir." He says, walking off with his back facing me.

My eyes keep staring off at the large walls, giving me memories of how my life used to be in there. Corrupted.

The rules within the society in the walls are extremely strict. Such as, you must report home at a certain time. You must not by any means speak negatively about the society which you live in or the people. You are assigned jobs based on your IQ, whether you like it or not. You are assigned a spouse by the age of eighteen, which is heart breaking because most girls would be forced to marry men in their fifties. You must pass your classes in school or do your job right with no complaints. You must not express any sort of fun within the walls, except when it's the first Friday. The married women must bare at least two children with her husband, if she has more than two then they kill the extra babies right in front of the mother. If anyone is caught stealing or rebelling, they will be killed right on the spot.

Many corrupted things happen within those walls, new rules are probably already established that I don't even know of since my escape of that hell hole.

If people are caught disobeying any rules they have, the first punishment is just a warning, the second time they catch you is a slap on the wrist and the third time they catch you results in death. Where they hang your body in the town square as a reminder for those to not disobey the rules.

I was lucky enough to escape many years ago, probably because people believed that I wouldn't survive a day out of the walls.

However, I suffered many times in those walls. My parents died, hoping my future would be better than everyone else in the society. If only they knew how beautiful and wonderful the world truly was outside the walls.

I stood up, walking down the small cliff towards the large concrete walls. Sam did a good job scouting the area because there was no camera in sight.

I laid my hand on the cold wall. The music had stopped by then, probably because it was their curfew time, so they had to all go home.

The sound of a twig breaking close to me startled me, I quickly grabbed my rifle with my finger hovering over the trigger and facing the gun towards the sound. It was difficult to see since it was pitch black outside.

A few seconds later a small bunny hops out towards me from where the twig broke. I felt embarrassment, being startled by a small bunny so I put my gun down and got on my knees hoping for the bunny to hop to me.

"Come here little fella" I whisper to it as I put my hand in my pocket and grab a small carrot out of it.

The bunny's nose perched as it saw the carrot in my hand.

I smile at it, "come on, don't be scared. I won't hurt you."

The bunny starts hopping towards me with its eyes right on the small carrot. It looked at me then back at the carrot and started chewing on it with its small teeth.

"See? That wasn't so bad." The bunny keeps eating at the carrot from my hand, then I noticed something around its neck. It was a red band, almost like a collar but it had a name written on it with a faded black marker, Hops.

His name is more likely Hops which is unusual since you don't see animals out in the wild with collar-like bands around their neck and a name written over it.

Soon enough, Hops finishes eating the carrot from my hand.

"Good job buddy, I'll give you more tomorrow if I see you again." The chances of me seeing this same bunny again are very slim, but I'll speak to it as if it understands me.

Hops quickly runs away, back into the dark forest.

I get up from my knees and look at the wall once more. It's sad to admit but Hops has more freedom than any single person in these walls.

Therefore, I have to finish this mission successfully. I have to get inside the walls and kill the Govenor with my own two hands so all the corruption he caused will go away.

In order for me to do that without getting caught, is blending in. I've took over many other communities before and took control of it, however, this would be the largest and most secured one to defeat.

Regardless, I'm not giving up till my last breath leaves my body.
