December 1969
I sat on my sofa strumming a few chords on my guitar when the phone rang. I huffed in annoyance before pickling it up.
"Hello?" I asked, the aggravation in my voice was clear.
"My goodness Jimmy, I wouldn't have called if I knew you'd be such a grump," it was Robert, he never called me.
"Sorry, haven't been feeling right lately," I grumbled, trying to make it believable,
"Well, you better start feeling right, I just had the grandest idea for a band trip!" Robert said,
"Really? A band trip? We just came back from an extended one, called a tour, no way I'm going back on the road," I said,
"It's not long, just a few hours to the Welsh countryside, then we stay for a bit and write some music, not too bad," He said, his black country accent was heavier through the telephone.
"You'll do anything to get away from that wife of yours," I said jokingly, making Robert laugh on the other end,
"Just about anything," he replied, we laughed for a while longer before he asked me again,
"So, what'd ya say?"
"Well, what about Bonzo and Jonsey?" I asked,
"Bonzo doesn't want to spend a week cooped up in a cottage in the middle of nowhere with no women and no booze. I have yet to ask Jonesy, do you know his number by chance?" Robert said,
"Sure, I'll go, and no, I don't have his number," I said, I truly had nothing better to do.
"Alright, sounds good, I'll let you know when the plans are set," he said,
"Alright, see ya 'round, Robert," I said
"Bye now, Jimmy," Robert said as I took the phone down from my ear. I nearly fainted, I got so nervous talking with him, a man who I've been through nearly everything with, and I still get nervous. A month ago it wasn't like this, now I get a case of word salad every time I talk to him. I sat back down and pushed my guitar to the side, now I was daydreaming about going to a cottage in the middle of nowhere with him. Deep down inside I secretly wished that Jonsey wouldn't want to go.
