Chapter 3

Maya's POV

I ran to the car and hopped in the passengers seat. I shut the door and smiled at Lucas.

"Hey." I said

"Hey, how'd it go?" Lucas asked as he started driving

"With Riley?" I asked

"Yea." he said

"Well, she came." I said

"And...."

"She seemed okay. I don't know, she just seemed like she didn't want too be there." I said

"Well, I'm glad you invited her. It was the nice thing to do." Lucas said with a smile

"Yea, I guess so." I said

We pulled into a pizza restaurant and Lucas stopped the car.

"Yay! Pizza!" I cheered and opened the car door

Lucas laughed and opened the door for me as we walked in. We were seated at a table and started talking.

"Hi. I'm Connor and I'll be taking your order. Do you guys want to get something to drink?" Connor said

He looked me up and down. He's cute, but I don't know. He gave me a smile and I smiled back. He was about to say something to me but Lucas ordered our drinks.

"I'll have a sprite and she'll have a coke." Lucas snapped

Wow. Where did that come from?

"Uh ok. I'll be right back with those. Um... are you too dating?" Connor asked shyly writing down our drinks

Lucas and I looked up at each other. We get this question asked A LOT. We smiled at each other and I looked up at Connor.

"No, we aren't dating. We're best friends." I smiled

Connor smiled back and was gonna say something to me but Lucas started talking before he could.

"Yeah, and we're very VERY close. We do everything together." Lucas smirked at Connor

What is happening right now? Connor looked down and shut his mouth.

"I'll go get your drinks." Connor said and walked away

I looked back at Lucas as he looked at me.

"What?" Lucas asked

"What? What was that? I think he already knew we were best friends after I told him. You didn't have to say anything else." I said

He looked at me kinda shocked but then returned with his smile. I couldn't help but smile back at him even though I was confused at what just happened.

"I just wanted him to know that your mine and you will always be my best friend FOREVER." Lucas said standing up and yelling the last part

I felt my face get red with the attention of the people around us. I giggled and and looked up at him. He smiled back and sat down.

"Your sooooooo embarrassing!" I said putting my head down

"I know, but you LOVE me." he smirked

"Yeah, I do. And you LOVE me." I smirked

"Yassssss I do!" He said making us both laugh

An older woman came around to side of our table and smiled at us. We smiled back at her.

"You two are too adorable. You are the cutest couple I ever seen. How long have you two lovebirds been together?" She asked

"Oh, we aren't dating. We're best friends." I said

"But you said you love each other like a couple would, and honey, the way he smiles at you says that he's in love with you." she told me the last part in my ear

I smiled so big when she said it and I don't even know why. Lucas had a look of confusion on his face as she and I smiled. He didn't hear the last part.

"Thank you. We do love each other, but not like a couple." I said

"Ok, honey," she laughed "bye lovebirds." she smiled and waved goodbye

Hmmmm. Maybe she's right.
