The office clock ridiculed me as I could feel my eyes flicker to the time, observing it with each slow passing tik. Nothing about sitting in this office today brought me comfort, knowing I was in a place Jin could find me. At any moment, he could waltz through the door, and colour would follow him.
I wanted to hide in my writing nook on the sound stage set. Some props for the last filming sequence had been left, blocking the view from a small unused corner sofa with a little dusty pillow. But the soft-knitted blanket draped over the back of the couch was perfect for laying over my lap when I'd been typing away. However, today was an office day. Like a criminal, I had been chained to my desk all morning; perhaps, if I was lucky, I could hide away there later this afternoon.
I had already tried going to the head editor's office. Professionally but firmly, I knew I could reduce the risk of seeing Jin by requesting he be assigned to another editor. However, as my mouth opened to request Seokjin be handed off to someone else, her mouth beat me to the punch line, but the words that escaped her lips weren't what I had suspected to hear.
The head editor was an old woman, surrounded by piles of books more than the local library. They drowned her tiny figure. Her wrinkled forehead wrinkled into a smile as she clasped her aged hands around mine. "Jin talked about you so fondly this morning and said he would never work with any other script editor if they weren't you. He sang your praises on set, boasting how lucky he was to have you. You'll be in demand if Jin isn't careful. I've always been impressed with your work ethic, but I agree that you're so lovely to work with. Keep up the good work." She beamed with a bright smile, her eye and cheeks squashing tightly together, making the smile lines on her cheeks evidently stretch proudly.
How embarrassing, I couldn't exactly have turned around and said; actually, I have a problem with him. Especially not after she informed me of the gleaming review he'd been throwing around the set. Therefore, I left her office after thanking her and scowling back to my office in defeat. To avoid looking foolish, I used the excuse of an update for the time of next week's final meeting.
I slumped against my office chair, letting my head fall into my hands as a sigh escaped my lips. Jin; one. Alice: Zero. Admittedly, he'd won the first round, but I wouldn't be on this set forever. I exhaled with the knowledge that once this film was over, I could ensure a new project without the feature of Kim Seokjin. I would have to endure seven more months of filming.
A knock broke me from my swirling thoughts, "Come in." I called.
The handle was pushed down by no one other than Namjoon. His face was flushed a darker grey that was eye-catching against the rest of his complexion, his eyes fixed to his feet, and Namjoon's shaky hands were trying to steady a basket full of strawberries. I raced from my seat to help him carry the basket before he tripped over the chair opposite my desk.
"Careful," I warned, balancing him. It was almost a relief to remove the basket from his hands. Namjoon's smile was thin. I saw him open his mouth sharply for him, only to close it again as my fingertips reached for the note.
Dinner at 2 pm? My trailer. Jin
A poorly drawn strawberry had been doodled in the corner of the small card. My face must have given away the following words I was building up to say as a burst of laughter broke the silence of my quiet glare at the obnoxious card. With no please or gentle request, how else was I to interpret the note?
My eyes flashed to Namjoon clutching his stomach as he made little effort to conceal his laughter at my irritated expression. "He's never been one for subtle." Namjoon continued to snort as I rolled my eyes.
