Chapter 17 : Meet our Murder Dog

Bryan POV:

"NO! HE'S NOT MY DAD!" "Bryan." "You don't get to replace daddy, and you can't separate me from Dylan." "Bryan, I can't control whether or not you get to see Dylan, but I need you to accept Amiri, please." "Yes, you can. I heard you talking with Valerie, and you both agreed that we can't see each other and that we should forget about Daddy. Well, I don't wanna, so leave me alone. My friends are waiting for me so I'll see you this afternoon." "Fine, be that way." "Bryan, Bryan? BRYAN!" "AHH, oh god. How long was I asleep for." "4 hours." "4 HOURS!? Oh god, where's Shadow, we need to leave." "We aren't leaving just yet Bryan. You're finally getting sleep and no one is going to look here anyways." "I don't trust that." "You don't trust anything. Just calm down and lighten up a bit. You were dreaming about something but I couldn't tell what this time, mind saying." I took a deep breath and tried to remember what happened. It was the day mom had me meet her new boyfriend and it was only a month after dad died. "It was the day I got in a fight with my mom." "Why were you fighting with your mother?" "You could say she moved on from an event very quickly and began to separate Bryan from someone he held close." Freddy looked at the both of us in confusion. "Did the version of me here never say anything about his family?" "No, not really. The one time I heard anything was when he mentioned his parents and he had a mental breakdown about how if he called them they would be right about him being a failure." "Hold on, what now?" "Yeah, it was the day he died which was the day of his breaking point. I asked him if I should call them after he mentioned them. And then he got hysterical and was saying if he did that would make things worse." "Okay then. I don't find that surprising and I have a hunch about what happened with him in this dimension now. That kinda sucks though, odd question." "Shoot." "Does anyone by the name of Dylan work in the company or been mentioned by Bryan?" "Um, let me think there. That's hard." After a few minutes of silence, Shadow went to go find me something to eat. Freddy then answered, "I remember hearing about Bryan meeting a new hirer named Dylan on a tour a little while back. Blonde, brown eyes, someone like that?" "Yep, that's the exact description. Thanks, wanted to know who existed here and that just further proves my hunch." "What hunch?" Freddy was understandably confused. "Don't worry about it." "Yeah, it's best you don't. Bryan's past has a lot of lore and depending on what happened here, your version probably has more than him." "I'm still someone that has lore, but yeah. Your version possibly has more than me." "I wouldn't believe that. I don't know what his past was like, but you've been all around the universe. Plus you look like hell, no offense." I laughed at Freddy's statement. "Non-taken, but you are right. We do look like hell Shadow." "HEY! HM, and I thought we were friends." Shadow crossed his arms and pouted, making me laugh even harder, even Freddy chuckled a bit. "It's been a long time since I've laughed that hard." Shadow perked up slightly and grinned, "Well then, I'm glad to make your day." Freddy turned around and then looked back at us with worry. "What's wrong?" "I, I don't know. I thought I heard something." Shadow extended his arm and closed his eyes. He opened them a few seconds later in shock. "Bry, one of them's here." "One of who?" The shadows suddenly became restless; bleeding into the light. "Oh fuck me, it's void." "I'll see if I can find it, I'll yell if I do." "Got it." "Kid, what's going on?" "You're about to see one of the things that were a part of ruining my life. Stay close to me, it probably won't kill you since you're not organic, but it may still rip you apart." "How is that any better?" "You're still alive and we can fix you, that's how. Now, when I say run, run." Freddy groaned and got ready to run. (Uhhhh, Bryyaan? Yes, what's wrong? I found the demon, and well, it's Lolli. Something triggered her, AND SHE'S FUCKING HUGE RIGHT NOW! HELP!) "Geez Shadow, I'm coming." "What's happening?" "He found the demon and I know what it is. Come on, let's go before he gets himself killed." I walked down the stairs and outside the front of the hotel to see Shadow running in circles and Lolli, a black void wolf, chasing him around. "Um, is he?" "Shadow's fine. Now then." I whistled and Lolli stopped chasing shadow. She bounded over to me and got to normal size. I petted her forehead, "There we go. Now, who's a murderous doggy?" Lolli barked and jumped on me. She then began to lick me. "Correct, it's you, Lolli, now get off and stop licking me." She stopped and turned towards Shadow, getting into a pounce position. "Please don't." Lolli stayed in the position, but her muscles tensed. "NO, YOU WON'T GET TREATS LATER!" "Shadow, she's going to get you. If you don't want to be slobbered, I would run." And just as I said that Lolli pressed herself forward and ran to Shadow. "AAAAAHHHHH!!! LOLLI, SIT, STAY, SOMETHING GOD DAMN IT!!" "RUFF RUFF!" After a few minutes of Lolli chasing Shadow, he was finally on the ground with her sitting on him. "OW! That hurts you know." And just to rub salt in the wound, she laid down and Freddy and I were laughing harder than ever. "Okay, that's got to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Where'd you find her, I think I just might get one of my own?" I shrugged, "In all honesty, I don't know where she came from. Shadow and I found her around what, five years ago for Shadow and I? When we found her she was a tiny pebble that Shadow found and wanted to add to his random collection of stuff. All I know is that she's a type of void that's somewhat tameable." Freddy looked back at Shadow and Lolli. Shadow kept on groaning as Lolli licked him. "What do you mean by a pebble?" "Lolli can turn herself into a rock until someone disturbs her. Makes a really good guard dog because if some idiot somehow finds our place, there's a 90% chance they'll trip on her." Freddy looked worried and said, "I'm almost scared to ask, but what happens if someone trips on her?" "Oh her rock form starts to grow spikes and she gets slightly bigger. Then she goes feral and chases you around till you're dead." Freddy's eyes widened and he looked at Lolli and said, "Maybe I don't need a dog." "Um, HELLO?! BEST FRIEND TRAPPED UNDER A DOG, REMEMBER?!" I laughed and started to walk over to Shadow, "Alright, I'm coming. Lolli, come on, get off Shadow." She opened her eyes and jumped off of him, sitting down right in front of me. "Hold on, Bryan." "Was she still dormant when you left her?" Shadow was finally able to get up and he raised an eyebrow and said, "Uh, yeah. We always leave her dormant when we leave the void. Why?" "How and why is she here?" I stood there in silence along with Shadow. "Bry, you don't think," "Whatever triggered her was someone, not something. That isn't good." Shadow started to pace back and forth. "W-W-We can't go back. Someone knows where we live now. Th-They'll tell the Coalition if it isn't already them and if it wasn't the Coalition that found out. WE CAN'T GO! THEY'LL KILL US OR, or." Shadow began to breathe rapidly and pace faster putting his hands to his temples. I grabbed his shoulders to make him stop, "Shadow, calm down. We'll be fine, we just need to bolster our defenses more, alright? When we go back, we can stay in the black void for a few days, we know our way around the demons. So, even if they confiscate everything we own, we still have the book, Lolli, and I know the house like it's second nature, I can just remake everything. Okay, we aren't getting caught." I stared at Shadow and held onto his shoulders tighter than ever. His breathing began to slow and he hugged me. I let him hold on to me for a few minutes before he let go. I then turned to face Freddy. "Now then, we may be staying for more than a few days." "Let me guess, a couple of weeks?" "Probably, sorry for freaking though." "It's fine, you wanna walk around the park or do something productive though? Maybe you can show Lolli here the park?" Just as Freddy said that Lolli barked with excitement. "Alright, let's go. Seems like we'll have a couple more weeks of peace." "Until chaos begins again?" I looked at Shadow and nodded, "Until Chaos begins again."
