A Song to My Mother
Today I bought you flowers
A pretty bunch of daisies
Lilies and roses
And weaved a crown of pansies. It's Mother's Day... I'll pay you a visit
I wear my new dress and braid my hair
(The way you did it)
And walk out in this day so fair.I think of those days of yesterday
You sang me lullabies
And rocked me on your lap
Until I dreamt and ceased my cries. My favorite cookies you baked
The air brings me the smell
of vanilla and rising dough
Sweet aromas I know so well.I'm almost there, a block away
Hurried by the willows shade
I brought with me the Spanish guitar
To please you with a serenade.Mother, I'm finally here
I want to spend some time with you
Take this crown I made myself
To show my love so true.I sat next to the grayish stone
A tear dropped to the floor.
I played the most beautiful songs
To my mother... Forever I'll adore!
