All he wanted to do was keep subjecting her to this sweet torture. Until he could hear the choked, moaning sound as she came in his arms.

But he knew that it would only make it harder for him to separate from her now. She should therefore not forget how much he had to hold back and that he was yearning for her just as much.

One last time, he ran his middle finger a little more insistently over the part of the already clammy fabric where, beneath her throbbing monds pubis, lay what was longing for him.

Emilia knew it even without this last teasing touch and now had to be pleased with what she got from him. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Don't you even dare to go on without me, my Love. I wanna feel you, watch you. I wanna see how much you crave me. Just like I'm craving you... I want that you wait for me. Do you understand?"

Somewhat breathless and more aroused than ever by his whispered, claiming words, she hastily turned to him, put her hands on his strong neck and pulled him down to her.

Hard and brash, her mouth landed on his as he tightened his grip on the tender, firm flesh of her bare buttocks.

It felt like an eternity, with neither of them wanting to let go. Deeper and deeper they seemed to sink into each other before releasing.

Just millimeters apart, Bucky felt her hot breath brush across his lips as she whispered the promise almost silently.

"Always, Sergeant."

Somewhere in North Carolina, two days later

Bucky and Sam followed the trail from Cleveland to a small, idyllic town on the Virginia state line.

Once there, everything went smoothly. The remaining members of the newly proclaimed Hydra were finally hunted down after a confrontational battle or two.

Right after they were arrested and taken away by the task force, Bucky reached into his jacket pocket and sent Emilia a message.

"So look at that. You actually managed to befriend the enemy after all."

Sam suddenly appeared beside him. He was talking to the lead operations officer about what to do next until just now, and now looked curiously over one of his shoulders.

Undeterred, Bucky finished typing the short sentence and sent it off.

"I did that a lot earlier, Wilson."

The expression on Bucky's unabashed face spoke volumes. So did the grin which Sam implied he was referring to him.

"Well, I'm glad then! I was worried you were going to die all alone. But you've got me now, buddy."

The light slap of the flat of his hand on Bucky's back made him start to move. They walked past the inconspicuous black SUV down the small dirt road at whose end their ride was waiting for them.

"Now let's get serious, Buck. When are the wedding bells going to ring for you and Carson, huh?"

At Sam's unexpected change of subject, his face momentarily slipped in a bit of shock: "Did you take a few too many hits today or is the foreign upper air here maybe not doing any good for you?"

"Nah! Don't act like I'm talking about something impossible. Surely you've thought about it before, haven't you? It's the next logical step, right?"

At his friend's rather insistent probing, the cogs began to turn in Bucky's head.

He had never really thought about it that way. For him everything was perfect as it was. And Emilia had never said a word about it either, so he assumed that she felt the same.

"Well... to be honest..." With a wry smile, he looked a little uncomfortably at Sam.

"Jesus Christ, Barnes! What are you waiting for? Are you going sit around and see if someone better crosses your path?"

"What? NO! She is the only one I want! There will be no one better!"

Bucky's passionate protest elicited a knowing smile from Sam.

"There you go. Let's cut to the chase, then. My sister can't wait to finally go to a wedding again."

"Huh, probably because her brother is still in the pipeline..."

Only shortly after his retort, Sam's elbow landed in his ribs, whereupon he couldn't help but smirk.

"By the way: Sarah sends word that she's expecting you lovebirds for Christmas. After you already turned down her invitation to Thanksgiving, she totally persists."

Still holding his ribs with one hand, the smirk faded from Bucky's face with each step he took. It gave way to a more melancholy expression as he stared at the asphalt in front of him.

"I know. Mia already talked with her about it. We couldn't make Thanksgiving because we were on the road."

"On the road?"

"Yes. We were looking for Becca's family... My... family."

For a few moments, the two men walked side by side in silence. Until Sam spoke up again.

"So, how many nephews and nieces do you have?"

Burying his hands in his jeans pockets, Bucky strolled on, staring into space.

"Two. One nephew and one niece."

"What are they like? Do they have kids? Grandkids?"

The indifferent shrug of his shoulders did nothing to convince Sam that his friend really didn't care. After some seconds, an almost imperceptible nod followed.

"They both have. But no idea how they are. We... haven't met them in person."

"Why not?"

"I didn't want to ruin their peaceful lives."

Sam knew what Bucky meant by that and didn't reply. He just let him keep talking.

"Mia found quite a bit about them. About Becca, too. She was married to the same man for almost fifty years. At some point she moved to New Jersey with her family and started working there as a teacher... She was happy. At least according to what was said about her. She died nearly 15 years ago..."

They spent the last few yards to one of the other SUVs in silence. Once there, Bucky turned to Sam, facing the setting evening sky.

Although what he said saddened him, somehow he seemed to have found peace.

"You know, Sam. I think it's good the way it is. Having another family somewhere is a nice thought. It's enough for me to know that my sister lived a long and full life, which I'm sure her children and grandchildren aren't the only ones who tell stories about."

Bucky looked at his friend. And Sam could see the confidence in the latter's smiling face as a hand settled on his shoulder.

"Maybe I'm lucky enough to have a long and contented life ahead of me, too. With the woman I love in my arms and my friends around."
