"Hi Iris." Melody said.
I smiled at her and then sat down across from Mom.
"So what are we doing today?" I asked.
She looked up from her paperwork. Her glasses were on, which was normal, because she wore them whenever she was doing work. I wasn't sure if she needed them or not, but they made her look smart and serious.
"I'm not going anywhere. I have patients all morning, and then a meeting with investors and after that a meeting with the board."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Percy said we were doing a family day. That's why he got me up at the ungodly hour of seven thirty on a non school day."
"We're having one Sunday. Maybe he got confused. You're free to spend the day however you want." Mom looked at her watch. "I have to leave. I'm taking the bus to work today, because I'll be taking the train into New York for the meetings. You may use the car." She got up and kissed the top of my head. "Don't drink and drive though. Or text and drive."
I rolled my eyes at her. "Of course not Mother. Have a lovely day. I'll see you back at the house before dinner."
Mom left, and I was left in the kitchen.
Percy and Melody were talking quietly, and I decided to go somewhere. The keys were hanging up, so I grabbed them and walked outside into the garage.
Mom's black Volvo was parked in the garage, looking as though it had been recently washed. I backed it out of the driveway and drove around aimlessly for a bit. Where would I go? Nothing was even open. None of my friends were up yet, except for Bee. Bee had auditions for the musical, and had been up since six thirty. She had tweeted a picture of her with some of her musical theater friends.
Maybe Colton was up. I could drive by his house, but that would be stalkerish.
Was he even a morning person? I had no idea.
Shouldn't you know that kind of thing about your boyfriend? Was he even my boyfriend? Or was it just some meaningless Parisian fling? Was I reading too much into the date? Or am I overthinking it?
I needed to drive by his house. If he was there, I could be like "Oh hey Colton! I didn't know you lived here. By the way, are we dating? Yeah? Okay great. Let's go have a date. No? Okay. I was just kidding when I kissed you." Then all of my worries would be solved. Sure, I'd look like a stalker, but that was only if I got caught.
I turned onto his street and casually cruised down it. Nobody was at his house. All the cars were gone, and there was no garage. Weird. He hadn't said anything about leaving town. You'd think that would be the kind of thing you'd tell your possible girlfriend.
The clock on my dashboard read 8:08. Rory would be up by now, because he got up at 8:00 sharp. Every morning we didn't have school, he was up at eight. It was kinda weird, to be honest. My phone was on the seat next to me, so I picked it up. I held down the home button.
"Call Rory." I ordered.
The phone began to dial, and I held it up to my ear. Rory answered a moment later.
"What do you want, Iris?" He asked.
"Well, I'm bored, and nobody else is awake. Can I come over? Or can I come get you? My mom let me borrow the car."
He sighed. "Sure. Let's go get Starbucks. I'll be outside my house in five minutes."
"Great. I'll be there."
I hung up the phone and tossed it on to the seat.
Three and a half minutes later, I was in Rory's driveway. He walked outside, with his wallet in one hand and phone in the other.
He opened the car door. "Why are you up so early? Not that eight is early, but it's early for you."
"Percy thought it would be hilarious to trick me into thinking we were going somewhere with Mom and Melody."
"Melody. That's his girlfriend, correct?" He asked.
"Yeah. She's nice I guess, but she's really quiet. I didn't think he was into the shy quiet type."
"Well if it's love, sometimes it's not someone who is your type." He looked off into the distance, with a dreamy look on his face. He was thinking of Ginger, I was sure.
"If it's love and we decide that it's forever, no one else could do it better and if I'm addicted to-" I sang.
"Kindly refrain from singing Train songs. I'm trying to listen to the radio."
"It's not even on. You just don't appreciate my beautiful voice." I gestured to my throat for emphasis.
"Both hands on the wheel Fitzgerald!"
"You're such a stick in the mud. Look, no hands!" I laughed.
"Iris! Driving is very serious." Rory admonished.
"Dude. We are literally at a stop sign."
He rolled his eyes at me. "Can you just get me to Starbucks in one piece? It's all I ask of you."
We finished driving to Starbucks, and to appease Rory I was extra cautious.
I am such a great friend.
Once we were seated, me with a peppermint mocha and Rory with a vanilla milk, I decided to tell Rory what happened in Paris. Also, don't ask about the vanilla milk. He's a freak who hates coffee. But he can't get enough of the vanilla milk.
"Okay, so, I may or may not be dating Colton."
AN: I don't own the lyrics to If it's love. Train, my favorite band, does. I also don't own the quote at the top. Anyways, what do you think? What do you think Rory's reaction will be to finding out Iris and Colton are dating? Comment and vote please!
Next chapter will be up next Friday
Edit: Does anybody want to make me a cover? Just comment here if you want too. The collage above represents Colton, I don't own the photos.
