"Taehyung?" She bit her lip when the eternal silence greeted her once again. In her head, she was ranting the word 'stupid' again and again when she realised that he didn't even budge. God knew why did she think that this certain word would make him move?
As she got up in defeat and was beginning to walk away from him, but she felt a firm grip on her wrist preventing her from taking another step. She slowly pivoted her head towards him to see two eyes staring at her with great intensity. His pink and parted lips, hooded gaze, and flushed face made her heart drop to her stomach. Her knees were wobbling slightly even though fear was not the description of her emotions she was feeling right now.
He suddenly pulled her into his lap and caged her in his arms so she couldn't escape and Younggeum swore she almost died then and there. The scent of alcohol was wafting in the minimal amount of air between them and she was beginning to feel a little dizzy due to just inhaling it.
Or maybe it wasn't the alcohol.
Slightly taller than his physique, she observed him licking his dry lips to moist them very often and that didn't help to lessen the crimson tint on them. She was close, so close that she could see the intricate patterns of his eyelashes or count the small number of freckles his nose and cheeks adorned. But the most captivating thing of all his features was his eyes.
Once she peered into them, she couldn't just pull away. His grip was loose on her due to his drunk state and if she wanted, she could pull away very easily but didn't. This was probably the first and last chance she would ever get to stare deeply into him without the fear of getting caught and she wasn't the one to let it go.
"What did you call me?" Although he wasn't in his consciousness, his speech wasn't slurred and Younggeum would mistaken him to be sober if the tinge of alcohol didn't invade her senses.
"Mister Kim." She answered even though knowing that this answer was far from what he was looking for.
"No," He growled, "After that."
"'Can you hear me?'" She provoked earning the satisfactory reaction from him. He poked his inner cheek with his tongue as he raised his eyebrow in a mocking way and turned to the side.
"I know you're deliberately avoiding to answer my question," He began but he leaned in more, killing the somewhat distance there was between them, "but I'll hear it once more from your mouth, I promise you," He whispered the latter in her ear and Younggeum felt literal ice cubes down her spine when she felt a hand caressing her thigh from the satin fabric of her skirt.
"And I hope you remember that." He let out a breathless chuckle causing the hair of neck to stand due to his warm breath stimulating her nerves.
Oh how she wished to down alcohol too and forget that, but she couldn't.
At last, she had to give up the luxury of her bed and go outside of her room, secretly hoping that she wouldn't bump into a certain man. The day had just started and Younggeum didn't wish to start it off with an incident which would almost sent her off the cliff of embarrassment.
She didn't even know what was so embarrassing in the yesterday night's incident. It was supposed to be normal for couples, right? But the problem lied in their unnamed relationship. Her Highness told her that he was her husband and the emperor of this dynasty but she couldn't help but feel queer at his behaviour and her Highness' words. Neither of them seemed plausible to the young empress.
And the way Her Highness assured that the house was indeed a palace but a modernised one only helped Younggeum's bars of suspicion shoot up. The way the people dress here and the decor of this 'palace' appeared strange to her but unfortunately, she had nothing in her memories to contrast her new surroundings with.
She often sensed the feeling of having forgetting something very important but couldn't bring herself to actually try to remember that. As if the recollections were meant to be forgotten and Younggeum found herself getting more and more accustomed to the new life.
Not that she had remembered her old one to compare it with.
The abrupt closing of the door pushed Younggeum out of her stance. Imaginary beads of perspiration cascaded down her forehead as the dreaded meeting was finally coming to life. She had prepared in her room what to say when it did happen but when it was actually happening, Younggeum found herself awfully speechless. She could only part and close her lips like a fish while her brain takes their sweet time to form comprehensible sentences.
The said man walked into the picture while blinking his eyes open, but he immediately stopped when his gaze fell on the terrified girl. Frozen in this situation while the second hand in the clock was still ticking, Taehyung's mind could only form one phrase that his early morning brain could come up with.
"He-Hey,"
