A/N I hope you enjoy reading this because I certainly enjoyed writing it

It was D-Day and I was running around like a headless chicken, posting post it stickers on the walls to notify my house sitter how things work.  My half packed suit chase sat on my bed. Typical me leaving everything to the last minute. I couldn’t believe that in a day I would be in London! Going to London was always I childhood dream for me and now it’s coming true. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. I ran from my room stumbling over my disorganised mess on the floor. I finally reached the door, wondering who it could be, and opened it. I discover that on the over side was Liz.

“Hey Liz,” I said and gestured for her to come in.

“Hey Claire,” she replied as she followed me into my room. As she reached my room she asked “Claire, what colour was your floor again?”

“I must confess, I can’t remember I haven’t seen it since yesterday,” We turned and smiled at each other.

“Well by the look of things you need a little help,” she asked me with a smile.

“Yeah, I suppose it’s a bit of a mess, thanks Liz” I replied gratefully.

We went straight to work; Liz vacuumed the floor while I finished writing notes to my house sitter. Then came the closing of my suit case. This became a challenge because it seemed (as usual) that I had packed too much in my suit case. Thinking I needed everything in my suit case (which I didn’t), Liz and I both sat on it and after a few attempts we managed to overcome the challenge.

With the floor colour visible again and my bag zipped up, we went to the kitchen to grab some Ice Tea.

After a few minutes of silence Liz turned to me and said “I’m really going to miss you,”

“Me too Liz,” I suddenly felt sad about the fact my best friend wasn’t going to be with me for a month. We had been best friends since pre-school, and I really hadn’t gone more than a week without seeing her. I was going to miss her too.

The clock stuck 9:00 am and my flight was leaving at 11:30 am, so I checked that I had all my travel essentials (passport etc.), said goodbye to Mittens and had one last look at my house then closed the door behind me and headed for Liz’s car.

I was walking towards her car when Jack – my next door neighbour – shouted “Are you off now, Claire?”

“Yes Jack, I won’t be back for another month. There will be a house sitter at my house to take care of Mittens,” I shouted back.

“Okay, have a good trip, oh and by the way good column this morning,” for a second I had no idea what he was talking about then I remembered.

“One of your best yet,” he continued.

“Thank you Jack, see you soon” I said with a wave. He waved back than ventured back inside his house.

Both Liz and I, after many attempts managed to load my luggage into her car. We were both silent for a couple of minutes then Liz broke the silence by saying “I know that you’re going to London for your work, but you never know you, could meet a guy,”

“Liz, we’ve talked about this, I don’t have time for “guys” my focus is my career, that’s what’s important,” I told her.

“You can still focus on your career and find a guy,” she told me.

“Yeah, well I can’t,” I protested.

“Why not?” she asked.

“Because……” I really couldn’t give her an answer because I actually didn’t know why I couldn’t do both. I just knew that I couldn’t.

Liz took my “no answer” as a hint to drop the subject.

The rest of the journey we talked about what I would see and do once I arrived in London.

After forty five minutes of driving, we finally arrived at the airport. Liz was kind enough to park and knowing that she would have to suffer a very expensive parking ticket.

“Liz you don’t have to park, you know how expensive it is?” I questioned.

“And what? Miss saying goodbye to my best friend,” she smiled in return.

“Thanks, Liz” I smiled graciously.

It took all our strength, but finally my suit cases were out of Liz’s boot. We walked into the elevator and pressed the button for level two. There was a *bing* and a voice came through the operator announcing that we had arrived at level two. I dragged my suit case off the elevator with Liz behind me.

“So I guess this is it,” Liz said after we had made our way out of the elevator.

“Yeah, I guess it is,” I replied. I looked at Liz and we both gave each other a big squeeze. Part of my just wanted to stay and go back to Liz’s house and pop some popcorn and watch a movie, however part of knew that I couldn’t miss an opportunity like this.

By now we were both crying and through Liz’s tears she said “I’m going to miss you so much,”

“Me too,” I said crying, trying to pull a smile through my tears. We both gave each other one more hug, wiped our tears from our eyes and I headed over to check my bags in.

I managed that with no dramas however my bag did weight 20 kjs which thankfully was in the restrictions. I picked up my hand bag and looked around and saw Liz, still standing in the same place I had left a few minutes ago, trying to wipe the tears from her eyes. I gave her one last smile before the tears started up again. We both exchanged waves, and then I headed to security. Obviously there was still remains of my crying because I felt a hand on my arm and a sweet handsome voice reached my ears saying “Are you all right, miss?”
