Hello, darling readers!

At the ninth hour, I decided to write a piece for the 2022 Rewind the Classics contest. The idea of writing a sci-fi adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre" has been simmering on the back burner of my mind for quite some time, but I thought the idea would be applied to a novel or novella. Having written the very bare bones as a short story, I now see that this may be the best choice.

As with my short story "The Haunting of Elsinore Manor," I have written this piece with a "keyhole" point of view. The reader only sees/hears/experiences the series of events through very limited and controlled means (in this case, interviews and first person accounts). I find this affords more intrigue.

I meant for this story to read as a type of impossible collaboration: Charlotte Brontë meets Philip K. Dick. Even if I was not successful in that endeavor, I hope this story will have you questioning what exactly it means to be "human". Thank you for reading and enjoy!

"Jane Error" is posted exclusively to Wattpad. If you are reading this short story on any other platform, it is there without my knowledge or consent.

It should also be noted that I scoured the internet and Wattpad for months for stories called "Jane Error," convinced someone must have noticed this play on words before I did. There are NONE. "Jane Error" is my original idea, and if you find another book with that title, it has been copied from me. 09.14.22.
